Having worked and managed a Dairy Queen for 5 years, this has always been a rule. Not the "have it free" part (at least at my store), but the turning upside down part. We were supposed to do it, but we rarely did, and no one cared. I always had fun when I didn't, but then they grab it and slowly turn it upside down, as if it was going to spill. So I ask for it, turn it upside down, and violently shake it, and they laugh.

The person blending it will know right away what it'll do while blending it. Usually the blizzards with some kind of juice in them, strawberrys, pineapple, maybe chocolate syrup, those are the ones that could spill, and the person will know not to turn it over. Hawaiian (pineapple, coconut, and banana, banana could be soft enough to act kinda like a liquid) was the worst, don't try and turn that upside down. Any others without juice? Almost impossible to spill.

Yeah, I don't get it. Weirdly our local DQ's aren't... I dunno, corporate owned, or something. So they don't even have most of the menu items, just ice cream and like hot dogs and nachos. No burgers or chicken tenders or fries. I don't get it.

So I dunno, they probably are excluded from promotions like this.

That's been a thing forever. I don't care if they flip it or not though, I get a blizzard to eat it, not twirl it around like a baton. The employees at my DQ flip it, though.
