Online its called a hashtag, when using your phone its called a pound sign. Or sometimes its used to denote numbers

There literally is no official name for it. Octothorpe was the attempt at giving it an official name and it's the least popular option on the poll.

Just because its endorsed by a single non-profit doesn't mean that's the official name for it.
