All three of my children play the majority of games like I listed. My oldest is 9, my youngest is 5. We also encourage them to play video games that have similar focus (puzzle solving and teamwork). Games based on pure chance teach no useful lessons or traits that life doesn't teach them already. (Especially since lesser punishments are handle by dice rolls in our home.) We are also not the most financially solvent home. So when presents are gifted to us, we accept them with grace. My children have dolls (targeted toward both genders), but we do nit buy them. I would also like to point out to those who think less of me: my children want to play games with each other and their parents. We play chess multiple times a week. We have a family game night.
