Dude. Just play Onimusha 1-3 and Dawn of Dreams (IMO the best game in the series) if you haven't already.

Then do yourself a favor and own Dawn of Dreams. It is a criminally underrated game. It retains the Action-based Samurai swordplay while adding RPG elements and is much longer than any of the other games.
While some of these major changes turned off some of the original trilogy fans, it ultimately does everything its predecessors did, adds more to it and enhances the series in a big way. The story is pretty good, the soundtracks are great, the boss battles are outstanding and the gameplay is nothing short of epic. Quistis almost knocked Vaan out of the rankings for worst FF character.

I am supporting the mediocre Fahrenheit, cos while I found it to be average, the game does provide a lot of discussion points.
