I still can't get over how every time I play a game how 1080p 60fps looks. I think 4k is pretty but man I'm happy with this resolution and frame rate! Can't complain

Unless it's a big 50" tv 1080p is really good enough.

On console I'm super happy if I get that, since its so uncommon.

4k@60 is really cool though, but hard to achieve, and 4k@30 is just NOPE.

So right now my resolution of choice is 3440x1440@100hz. Not too hard to get on PC, and beautiful.

I have 1080p and 144hz for my PC, but not all games can go over 60 or even 30fps. Also the Switch often doesn't. So yeah I'm pretty good with 1080 60 when I get it. Overwatch is the smoothest looking game I play though. I can keep it at 144fps at all times which is really nice

1080p with 60fps is really nice but as long as it's at least 720p with stable 60fps I'm happy.

I don't care about resolution or framerate at all. It just doesn't matter to me.

This, more or less.

About the only reason I upgraded to an HD TV originally was because they started making games for the 360 that had words that were almost illegible in standard def. I've never really given a single shit about resolution or framerate as long as they're at least functional.

I'd say "fidelity" might be the only real improvement that I've generally welcomed/looked forward to (ie, when graphics become more realistic and game physics become more like the real world), but that never really required massive resolution to work, and we've sort of plateaued a bit on that anyway. I don't think there's been a single graphical innovation at any point in the last five years or so that mattered to me at all. And realistically, I could still happily live with last-gen graphics and not care in the slightest.

I probably won't be buying a 4k TV any time in the next decade, if at all. It's entirely possible that I will die of old age before getting one.

I don't care much about resolution. Framerate is another matter though since that affects gameplay, if I could get something higher than 60 consistently I'd be all for it.

I don't understand people who say this. Like if it were 240p and 10fps it would definitely matter to you.

You don't need to have blinding 4K and 144hz, I don't either, but to say those things don't matter is really silly.

It's not really a huge issue unless you're getting into competitive multiplayer and your opponents have access to higher framerate than you do.

We got by with lower framerates for years. Most games work fine at 30fps, and plenty of people wouldn't even notice the difference unless they were watching both side-by-side.

Yeah I agree it'll be hard to tell a difference. I only choose to say 60fps only because it seems a lot of people I know want that frame rate. My 4k tv can do such a thing.

imo 1080p and 30fps is the bare minimum in this day and age. I guess it depends how many competitive multiplayer games you play though. I watched a friend play Overwatch in 144hz once and it was insane how much difference it made.

Only true for console gaming from the couch. If you're using a PC then you'll probably notice a difference between 1080 and 2K on a 24" monitor.

You say that, but that's like doing to a movie theater, sit at the bottom row, leftmost seat, and say you have no complaints because you fulfilled your objective to see the movie.

I get where you're coming from, I've just upgraded to a 4k capable card but haven't found monitors I like so 1080 at 60+fps is doing just fine for now and looks good with everything up to max.
You could try downsampling as well if you've got the resources, that can look better than AA in a lot of cases, if the game supports it of course, some get a bit cranky.

If the game moves fast at all or aiming is important, 60fps is a must. 30 looks and feels bad tbh...

The most amazing jump to me was the jump between 4:3 and 16:9. Being able to see what's there more clearly is great, but widescreen puts more there to see.
