lol it's so tame
have you seen the legit savage shit people make?

The thing is. The motherfucking President is posting it. The issue isn't that Trump posted some horrible meme. The issue is that is zillionth time he has acted beneath his station. Our country is run by a manchild and it is embarassing.

Sounds to me like someone’s got a case of the “s'pose'das.”

What the fuck does that mean? Of course the President supposed to act like an adult. If you or I behaved liked confrontational idiots, our employers would have our asses, but I guess the President is cool as long as he is inside you.

God damn is humanity doomed. The sun can't explode quick enough.

Maybe the problem here isn't with the president, but the idea that people should be fired and lose their livelihood for exercising their free speech.

No the problem is definitely with the President. Jesus Christ, how do most Americans even dress themselves in the morning. I didn't know 6 year olds could vote for President, but I guess the Clinton-Trump battle of the idiots proved that notion wrong.

Sounds more like to me that CNN is spinning this like the user was directly responsible for exposing journos and reporters to threats and acts of violence. Better start doxxing the president then; he is the one that's actually normalizing threats and violence against people you don't agree with.

You could also say it is the biggest problem with the right these days. Both sides can go fuck themselves with their race to the bottom. One defense of Trump's childish antics is "But liberals". Both sides are wrong, but I have to say I take more umbrage with the President being held to the same standard as random liberals on the Internet. Only one of those people has power and represents one of the biggest countries in the world on a global stage. And it is really stupid because those same Trumpeteers on the right (I'll specify since many conservatives are correctly embarrassed of Trump) would be shitting themselves if we elected a Democratic President that spent every day posting like a SJW Tumblrina. Double standard are fucking this country over.

And what do you think would happen to this guy if CNN published his identity?

He'd probably lose his job like every other time someone posting vile racist and sexist has been outed?

So you're okay with megacorporations threatening to get people fired for exercising their free speech?

How would you feel if FOX News did this to a feminist or something?

No one is restricting his free speech, that protects you from the government. Freedom of speech does not protect from repercussions caused by that speech.

Free speech is a value, not a law. Please read some John Stuart Mill.

Freedom of speech is the right to articulate one's opinions and ideas without fear of government retaliation or censorship, or societal sanction.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_speech

What exactly is social sanction? You aren't free from judgment unless you think your freedom of speech should supersede the free thought of others.

Again, read On Liberty and find out. In this case, large, cetrallized corporations collaborating and threatening the livelihood of people who say things against their interests is definitely a threat to freedom of speech.

You'd think someone who considers themselves progressive would ve more concerned by corporations acting in this matter.

I am speaking specifically about that Mill quote. People aren't free of societal sanction because people are free to think whatever they want of your free speech. That part of that quote is demonstrably wrong and anti-freedom.

"Black people are inferior! What a funny joke guys, hurr hurr hurr".

Like, do you honestly think these memes are innocent and benign, simply because they follow a standard joke format? How naive can you be? Or maybe purposefully naive.

I don't give two shits if he was being completely serious in whatever bigoted bullshit he spewed. Freedom of speech means that's his right to do so. And it's other peoples rights to call him on his bullshit. It is not a corporations right to coerce an apology through intimidation and threats. That shit's tactics one expects from the mafia and completely unexceptionable coming from an organization that's supposed to be about dependable and trustworthy journalism.

You have freedom to say whatever the fuck you want. And other people are free to call you a moron. Free speech doesn't mean uncriticized speech.

So CNN can't complain if nobody takes anything they say seriously again from here on out. As you say, free speech =/= freedom from consequences.

That's exactly correct. You say people ignoring CNN is a consequence of this like it's some kinda zinger when the president has been advocating for just that for over a year now.

Stopped right there. I couldn't give a shit about the right. If the left can't be better than the fucking right, then we are fucked.

Wake up, sweetheart. We have been fucked for a very long time. American society is sick and it might be terminal if we don't make drastic changes. Two parties bicker like children and we got to the point where we had an election between the least popular politician in the country and a reality star businessman shitposter. We cannot get much lower

1. I think workers should have protections from their bosses unilaterally firing them over outside-work behavior. Leaving the principle of free speech up to the whims of the "free market" is not a good way to actually have free speech.
2. Also, someone who posts shit like this https://twitter.com/brianklaas/status/881553652116328448 can't really complain if the real world shuns them upon finding out. It's hard to have a society if people are just acting like that's okay behavior.
3. It's, uh, not a great sign that the president keeps retweeting/amplifying things made by virulent racists.

You could also say it is the biggest problem with the right these days. Both sides can go f*** themselves with their race to the bottom. One defense of Trump's childish antics is "But liberals". Both sides are wrong, but I have to say I take more umbrage with the President being held to the same standard as random liberals on the Internet. Only one of those people has power and represents one of the biggest countries in the world on a global stage. And it is really stupid because those same Trumpeteers on the right (I'll specify since many conservatives are correctly embarrassed of Trump) would be s***ting themselves if we elected a Democratic President that spent every day posting like a SJW Tumblrina. Double standard are f***ing this country over.

See, this post right here, this is the type of mindset that won Trump the presidency.

The difference is that the Left acts like they're holier than thou and are supposedly better and more sane than the Right and yet they do the same exact crap with the "Punch a Nazi" attitude, "Call Trump Drumpf" mentality and general shutdown of any dissent. If you call someone out on something, at least hold yourself to the same standard, else you'll look hypocritical and even worse than that same person.

The actual fuck is up with the world today? Literally no one can take a joke anymore >_> This is some police state shit.

This, what a bunch of scum *****. They're a conglomerate, nearly any publicity is good publicity for them at this point.

But yeah, lets potentially ruin this guy over a fucking gif if he doesn't play ball with us.

Right? Given they're in the news business, they've seen situations where a person's information have been given and it's lead to ruination. Honestly, I wonder if he could sue CNN over this.

The guy may have made the gif and made it public, but that doesn't exactly mean the President is gonna retweet it and it not really affect CNN at all- maybe even generate more traffic to them. The gif was never an 'issue' until this point

But they definitely know if they drop his info that his life is going to be flipped upside down for a while. Why else would they conceal what they know and then potentially release it? Laaawd.
