There's definitely been a few wahlberg films in recent years that are propaganda. The oil rig movie for example.

It's not just movies, the government has their grubby fingers in Deep in the gaming industry too.

I live and work in Hollywood. Even here it's not necessarily something we talk about a lot. So these documents leaking are very interesting to me. I feel somewhat vindicated.

When a writer or producer approaches the Pentagon and asks for access to military assets to help make their film, they have to submit their script to the entertainment liaison offices for vetting. Ultimately, the man with the final say is Phil Strub, the Department of Defense’s (DOD) chief Hollywood liaison.

If there are characters, action or dialogue that the DOD don’t approve of then the film-maker has to make changes to accommodate the military’s demands. If they refuse then the Pentagon packs up its toys and goes home. To obtain full cooperation the producers have to sign contracts - Production Assistance Agreements - which lock them into using a military-approved version of the script.

that makes sense to me

That makes no sense, Hollywood is ultra liberal "we are the world, peace and love will save the world" right?

Just finished the article. This is petty softball sort of reveal. Basically the government loans filmmakers assets, such as helicopters and tanks, to be used in films but in exchange they make demands to alter scripts.

So if the bad guy works for the NSA, they'll make the suggestions that it's just a lone nut gone rogue and not a systemic issue. If the film is found to have a message that doesn't make the government look shiny and wholesome they will refuse to lend the films producers any assistance and in films like Top Gun 2 or something where the whole movie relies on military equipment they simply will not get made.

I think that the studios and government work even more closely than this though. It's not mentioned in the article but I'm convinced that some films that are produced are being pushed by the government to happen. Pure propaganda films.

holy hell... how legit is this?

Rocky 4 and Rambo 3 are unapologetic Cold War propaganda movies.

Yes, there is a lot of government brainwashing that goes on through Hollywood.

I imagine if you tried to make a movie about literally an American Hero Green Beret teaming up with LITERALLY TALIBAN to fight Russia there would be a fucking riot on every corner of every street.

Hasn't this been public knowledge since shortly after ww2 with all the war movies? Like they proudly proclaimed how they were made in partnership with the DoD. I remember the enemy below in particular was practically an ad for the navy in like 56 or whenever it was made.

It's a very easy article to read. There's nothing there that isn't already public knowledge.

I mean ... pretty much any show that has a military presence and isn't critical of them normally has consultants. Is it really a surprise that some companies feed this symbiotic relationship?
