Pension reform is the only solution.

Everyone want their shit, but they're willing to destroy the state to get it, despite that fact that it's unattainable.

Nobody wants to tackle the big elephant in the room, that's the real problem here. Too many politicians are worried about their votes instead of admitting the fact that unions are the sucking the life out of Illinois.

Think about it. In my country, parents don't have to set thousinds of dollars aside for their childrends education. It's free. Those 40% is a lot lesser, the more children they have. lol

What the fuck are you smoking? We spend $16,000 per student per year in the Chicago Public School system and yet it's a fucking disaster. Higher taxes != higher quality healthcare or higher quality education.

In fact, knowing that you've got massive income thanks to millions of tax cattle is a HUGE takeaway from the incentive of providing quality care or quality education.

I'm not sure why everyone is up in arms. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on numbers.

Under current income tax rate at 3.75% and currently negotiating contracts for gross income of 275-300K, going with the higher number on salary, current rate would currently put me somewhere in the annual ballpark of $11,200. Under new numbers at 4.95% increases to about $14,850. I already pay about 8k in property taxes, would knock me up to at least 22k annually in state property/income tax alone. Compare to somewhere like Texas or Tennessee where taxes are done quite differently nets a significant chunk of change. I'm no tax expert but I don't see any reason to stay in Illinois if I don't need to, state has been on a decline for years and Chicago drags the rest of the state down in an eternal spiral *shrugs*. I have literally no reason to plan to stay in Illinois long term. I wanted to buy a home in Flossmoor but the $150,000 home I liked had a property tax bill of $8,600 per year. With more increases planned for both property taxes and income taxes, it's fucking insane to actually pull the trigger and invest on any property in Illinois.

No, because I worked while I was in college and paid a lot of it with cash as I worked. The rest will be paid off within a year.

And I'd rather do this entire thing again than pay way more in taxes for "free" education.

$8,600 in property taxes each year? And $4,000 or more in income tax each year? Plus business taxes out the ass for my side business. What incentive is there to pay all that in Illinois? The insane traffic in Chicago? The potholes and cracks in the streets? The bloated education system that doesn't teach kids how to read at even a grade-school level in favor of indoctrinating them into Democrat bullshit so they too can be tax cattle when they grow up?

I'm not worried about a crash or even the 20 billion. I'm worried about the fact that it's not hard to find homes that have had their property tax go up by 200% in a single fucking year. I just looked at a beautiful beach-front home that has $5,600 in property taxes. It's twice the size of homes here that have the same or more property tax. I can live with that because I'm actually getting something out of it in that case.

Which is basically throwing money away while claiming moral correctness, but instead of taking responsibility for their wasteful spending, they keep delaying tackling the problem and hand it off to some future politician, which is now Rauner.

It's pathetic that Democrats act the way they do. They destroyed the state of Illinois with decades of enabling and irresponsible spending and then claim Rauner is anti-union when he dares to instill responsibility into the state.

A lot of this comes from the 2008 crash and recession that never actually ended for most of us as every job that dissappeared was income tax that the state was no longer collecting and every house that got foreclosed was property tax that the local municipality was no longer getting. There are lots of factors involved but those are some of the bigger ones.

And yeah Chicago will continue to rot as it will be made an example of for the many other distressed municipalities in this nation to show them that there is no help for them either. Check out what going on in Puerto Rico for a preview of whats to come for more of us in the coming years.

Also while the dems are a bunch of greedy lying corporatist neoliberal warmongering ****s it's not like the other side isn't plundering as hard as possible for themselves and their donors while pushing austerity on all of us too. We are all being turned against each other to fight over the crumbs to distract us from the fact that we are all being ****ed.
