I always felt the clones should have been the bad guys vs conscripted soldiers of The Republic. It would make the easy transition to the Empire make a little more sense.

Yeah, the zero stakes war thing was basically pointless. But I guess Lucas needed to find a way to shoehorn in the Jedi getting deceived and fucked, so he picked the most roundabout way possible, also ruining his IP in the process.

You know what would make sense? A popular war the jedi refused to take part in. Negative public perception culminating in riots to oust the order. Anakin feeling deeply troubled because he felt that the jedi should protect the people, so he joins the war effort as a commander and a hero, which puts him at odds with Obi Wan and the order. The moral grey and devastating emotional impact of war pushes him towards the darkside. Palpatine gets his stanky dick all up in there. Bing badda boom.

There were like so many better ways to handle the Clone Wars, lets be honest.

The truth is, these are kids movies and it's a lot safer to have droids getting diced to pieces instead of people.
