If so, have you gone through with it?

I know the 4th option is a little harsh, but I didn't want to rephrase it. I have made flash games in the past, so I choose option 2.

Nope. Doesn't seem a fun process.

"making" a game is fun.... expecting results is not

I made a few with game maker many years ago. One actually turned out decent.

I'm in the middle of making one and it's going well.

The worst mistake you can make is overestimating the amount of work you can do and underestimating the amount of work your idea will take.

Also, if you're new to coding you can make the mistake of making your code too sloppy to build off of.

No; I haven't given it any serious thought. Though I've daydreamed about making games of a particular franchise that I enjoy.

I was doing the writing and dialogue on a small RPG project that never went anywhere years ago, if that counts.

I've started some, but I'm not very good at seeing big projects through. Perhaps one day I'll kick myself in the ass hard enough to get something done.

I've often considered it but, for the scale of what I want to do, I wouldn't want to bother learning how to actually do it. Likewise, I don't want to invest in hiring somebody with those skills. Plus I have a lot of ideas and I'm commit-shy when it comes to sticking to just one.

Oh, technically I programmed a game of Blackjack in VB which doesn't really count and I put together a CYOA kinda website as part of a web dev course which I also don't consider counting.

Out of curiosity, for something like RPG Maker, are you legally able to sell something you create via it?

I think it's fair. Ultimately, most things come down to motivation.

I made a few games in Game Maker. They weren't very good to say the least.

Yes. All the assets that come with it are free to use as well.

As a teenager growing up, I always thought about doing something like that. But then when I realized how hard it was to just learn flash? I gave up in a hurry.

Very much so. I think the first time my friends and I ever mentioned the idea of creating a game, I was like six or seven years old. I've never really made anything though because I lack the perseverance. I remember messing around a bit with Game Maker in high school, and more recently I've tried out Unity, but I haven't gotten very far in either.

Yup, but sadly I have to choose the 4th option, which isn't all that harsh. It's just a truth that sucks to admitting.

I would ove to, I have character designs and some, albeit likely not any good, ideas going through my head and I get more just by listening to music, but I have little to no faith in ever being good at making a game, like, at all, I would more than likely suck, get depressed, and quit not far into TRYING to make one....

I was the Game Design merit badge counselor for short bit with my Boy Scouts district. It was interesting to discuss with the Scouts the amount of work that goes into making any sort of game whether it be a board game or electronic game. A good chunk of them thought only about the programming and graphic designs with only a few thinking about the writing needed for a decent story.

The best part of the merit badge though was the requirement of designing a game, making it, and testing it. Majority of the Scouts made their own board games but I think some of them realized after playing the game that balancing even a board game isn't a simple task.
