The original Crash trilogy, especially Crash 1 are very similar to the great 2D platfromers of previous generations. There's a lot of great level design there, and a lot of gamers who grew up on more open world platformers fail to realize why it's so great

Crash 1 doesn't have any good level design, it's really bad actually.

That's actually the problem entirely. It is a very linear platformer, if it was a 2D game it would have been one of those forgettable generic platformers that you always saw with a movie license back in the Genesis/SNES era.

Platformers usually only work well with highly fixed linear elements. You just don't like platforming gameplay.

I think it's a great hybrid of 2D/3D platforming it's funny how no one complained about this until after the hd rerelease and I noticed it's mostly millennials....

but wouldn't the people who played this as kids count as millenials too? Seriously, what is the gap? 1988-2004?

Whatever dude, I happen to enjoy games like Super Mario World and Mario 64 more than any platformers, and I still think the Spyro trilogy was great, so clearly this is more of a "I don't like Crash Bandicoot" kinda thing.

I don't know man, the mental gymnastics people need to defend Crash 1 is just crazy. It seems most people admit it's a very flawed game at the very least and definitely not their favorite.

In fact, I don't think I have ever seen a person who claims Crash 1 is their favorite platformer.

I'd maybe even argue it's the best level design in the series, it's the game that actually assumes more intelligence out of the player and is overall more engaging and challenging throughout

Just because the sequels were better doesn't mean it's a bad game. Nobody thinks Sonic 1 is their favorite platformer either. But that doesn't mean the game is bad.

of course it's not true.

Tc is trolling, and if you point it out, he stays silent.

Which is a shame, we need people willing to accept opinions these days.

Crash 1 had some stiff controls but there was nothing badly designed about the game. Maybe the saving system is stupid and bullshit but there's nothing wrong with the actual design of the levels (except a few like Cortex Power)

It's important to remember that they fucked up the controls for the remake, making Crash 1 significantly harder than it originally was.

Crash 1 was only successful for a product of it's time. It was basically like PlayStation's Mario mixed with Donkey Kong and it was 3D (Donkey Kong Country was a big deal back then since it had the 3D looking graphics on the SNES). I beat Crash 1 back in 1998 and never really played it again.

Crash 2 and 3 are legit good games and still are to this day to me.

Well the first Crash got really hard near the end. There are a reason upward climbing stages were dropped for the sequels.
