*it looks nice
*it is a top loader so it's easy to service
*it has a 500GB hard drive, which is huge for a PS3 and big enough for whatever you would want
*it is by far the quietest and coolest running PS3 around
*it's a PS3! I honestly think it's still a better console than the PS4.

Seriously, it's one of those consoles that is so good I always want one hooked up.

Does it have backwards compatibility without having to rebuy games?

Ignore when people say that the title length is not important, that a title should just convey what the game is about. They're just jealous theirs isn't as long

I mean you only got that with the 60GB version, I still have one of those but I don't use it nearly as much since the disc drive can't be serviced easily, it is very loud for a game console, and it's hard drive is too small for a large portion of my PS3 library.

I mean it's cool if you got a big collection of old PS1/PS2 discs that you want to play, but that's the only benefit to that model. When it comes to what I use a PS3 for these days, the super slim is the one I want to have hooked up all the time.

I primarily use my PS3 as a PS1. I would probably use it as a PS2 if it weren't for the fact I have 2 working PS2s.

I don't think I have used my PS3 as a PS3 except for like 6 games.

Is it PS2 backwards compatible?

If not, then PS2 Slim is better in almost every way

It has the best games, PS3 games make PS4 games seem stupid.

Nah, the slim wasn't as good. Lacks the backwards compatibility of the original and lacks the quietness, big HD, and easy servicing of the super slim.

Yeah the disc drive is the loudest part, but it isn't that bad, not like a Dreamcast disc drive where you can hear it all the time.

I'll take that over the loud jet engine fans of the earlier models.

Wtf that makes no sense.

That's like saying the Wii can play N64 games but not GameCube games

Early PS3s did (PS2 and PS1 compatible) redesigned no, though you could still buy PS1 games from the Store.

PS1 discs can still be played on the Slim (which is what I have).

Personally, my favorite "modern" console is the XBox 360. I prefer the Xbox controllers for FPS games and I like the backwards compatibility with most of my large Original XBox library.

It does if it would have been cost-prohibitive to remain competitive. From a quick search, it looks like the models that were PS2 BC had PS2 chips in them, so they were hardware BC. I'm guessing that software emulation for PS1 was good enough to run the vast majority of PS1 games without issues. So, if PS2 software emulation wasn't anywhere near good enough to run just about all PS2 games, including PS2 hardware in the unit would be the only realistic option. Now, if including that would have increased the price by, say, $100, do you really think it would make sense to charge probably 33-50% more than the competition's system just to include BC?
