The FCC wants to destroy net neutrality and give big cable companies control over what we see and do online. If they get their way, they'll allow widespread throttling, blocking, censorship, and extra fees. On July 12th, the Internet will come together to stop them.

WHAT IS NET NEUTRALITY?

Net neutrality is the basic principle that protects our free speech on the Internet. "Title II" of the Communications Act is what provides the legal foundation for net neutrality and prevents Internet Service Providers like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T from slowing down and blocking websites, or charging apps and sites extra fees to reach an audience (which they then pass along to consumers.)

WHY IS NET NEUTRALITY IMPORTANT?

The Internet has thrived precisely because of net neutrality. It's what makes it so vibrant and innovative-a place for creativity, free expression, and exchange of ideas. Without net neutrality, the Internet will become more like Cable TV, where the content you see is what your provider puts in front of you.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON JULY 12TH?

Websites, Internet users, and online communities will come together to sound the alarm about the FCC's attack on net neutrality. We'll provide tools for everyone to make it super easy for your followers / visitors to take action. From the SOPA blackout to the Internet Slowdown, we've shown time and time again that when the Internet comes together, we can stop censorship and corruption. Now, we have to do it again!

SITES: DISPLAY AN ALERT

On July 12, sites from across the web will display a prominent alert on their homepage that shows the world what the web will look like without net neutrality. Below are "spinning wheel of death", "blocked", and "upgrade" alert modals; plan to use the one that best fits your site to encourage users to send a letter to the FCC and Congress in support of net neutrality. To use these them, you just need to embed a bit of javascript in the header of your site. Click here to try them out, and then be sure to grab the code on GitHub. If you're a Cloudflare user, try out their BattleForTheNet app. And for Wordpress, use their plug-in here.

And don't worry, none of these will actually block, slow, or paywall your site. But, they will let your users submit a comment to the FCC and Congress without having to leave your platform. They will only show up once and users can click away.

It should be bipartisan but it's not and everyone knew Trump would put these wheels in motion. You still chose to vote for him.

It's nice you want to join the fight now but this is your fault.

I didn't want to vote for a man like Trump. I felt forced to because, even though I knew he was an awful choice, I, like many other people, thought Hillary would've been even worse.

This isn't my fault. It's more the fault of anyone who voted for Trump during the primaries.

I'm a moderate Republican. I can't stand Trump. But IMHO Hillary would've been worse.

Voting for a candidate rarely means that you agree with 100% of everything they want to do.

Stopped reading there.

No one forced you to do anything. You chose to vote for him, knowing everything you knew about him.

No one held you at gunpoint and forced you to check his name on your ballot. You did it willingly.

For most people, there is no candidate that aligns with them on every issue. So what else do you expect them to do? Not vote?

Or write in or find a third party you like. This is what allows the two-party system to keep control. We need to break the cycle

I tried to break that system this election cycle. But people just kept saying, "that'd be great but you're never going to get enough support." ... I held on until literally election day, telling people I was voting 3rd party. By that time polling data had 3rd party candidates still extremely low, with very little support. At that point it was pointless to vote for them.

And I'll try to garner support for 3rd party again in 3 years.

Hopefully we'll have an ISP pop up that is exclusively net neutral, and provides that option to everyone at a reasonable price.

Good luck. Google failed at taking the ISP's on, how do you expect anyone else to succeed?

If everyone exercised their voting rights to vote for a candidate that perfectly aligned with their own views, everyone would wind up voting for themselves.

Every election will not be as awful as 2016 ideally.

Still not getting how this will accomplish anything with the current administration. Short of assassination, nothing will change Pai's mind, and his boss is a corrupt moron who couldn't identify the difference between an apple and a banana.

Perhaps we deserve to lose net neutrality. The American people voted for this after all.
