A buddy of mine has a business and he subcontracted me for a bunch of stuff but we did a lot of stuff in cash. He got audited recently by labor and industry and for the stuff they managed to find he owes them 16 grand 0_0.

It's all on him since my name isn't attached to anything and I could be a dick and tell him to get fucked, but since we did everything 65/35 I agreed to pay 35% of the fine ($5600) to be fair to him. It sounds like he won't be in any legal trouble though as long as we pay them off quickly.

Sucks he got picked. You'd be surprised at the amount of idiots the IRS hires. We had a lady take a shit on the floor because the restroom was closed for cleaning and she didn't want to walk to the next closest one.

It is very true. I work security at a very large IRS facility. Camera saw it all. Luckily peak season is winding down so all the dumb dumbs are going back to whatever dungeon they dwell in.

He's trying to appeal it but if he does that isn't it possible they may do another audit and potentially fuck himself way more if they found more stuff? I told him he better be honest with his lawyer so that he knows if it's even a good idea to fight this anymore.

I don't just work for him because I work out of a union hall 6 months of the year at power plants and rack up a lot of overtime during part of that time ( and also basically work enough to get a maxed out unemployment claim which is almost $1200 every 2 weeks in PA) then I go work for him when I feel like it, so I'm definitely not helping to pay fines for projects and contracts that I had no part of.

He could contact the tax payer advocate for advice. It's a free service to help with these types of situations. Could save him a little in lawyer fees.
