Psycho-Pass does a really nice job of deconstructing the social media/online culture, how anonymity comes at a cost, and the dichotomy of its use from the perspective of older people and those who use it without thinking. There are benefits and risks to being an "online entity," and this show takes its ideas to extremes.

I like Psycho-Pass considerably more than Madoka. It isn't perfect -- too much monologuing and not enough character development -- but it has a very solid setting and a terrific antagonist.

I feel it does a better job at monologues than GITS Stand Alone Complex does. The focus is on explaining the Sibil world, rather than the metaphysical ideology of it. It explores the people and the mania, rather than the abstract concepts of things like "ghosts." It seems a bit more grounded and sinister that way.

I wonder if the actors understand most of the stuff they are given. Philosophy, anatomy, etc. These guys in the dub aren't dumb, but it's gotta be funny trying to portray artists, crazy maniacs, and philosophers.

I think the transformation seemed stiff. I mean, what she saw with the Sibil System is a crazy moment, but she flipped a switch something fierce. Maybe if they'd cut down an episode or two from the Yuki death to the ending episodes, and tracked her a bit more, it would have been something. I think they tried to juggle her and Kogami as leads a bit too much. However, cutting more episodes would have bee odd. 22 wasn't a full season length already.

I think what would have made more sense was a scene where Akane goes to Ginoza and basically usurps him privately. As it was, she just showed up and BAM!

Like there are several points in the show where you can see her defiant nature (from episode 1 on) and as you get to the end the demands she starts making of others (and especially the sybil) become greater. This is even more evident in S2 (which is not as good, but Akane is not the reason why). But like part of the way through she realizes the sybil is not perfect and later she realizes that even if it's imperfect it's not replaceable. Getting two realizations in the same show and making them both meaningful to a characters development is difficult to do.

Since I'm making this a general anime backlog topic, I figure I'll show the list here. I had a bunch of other stuff, like Bebop, but I saw it a couple months back. She had to stand at the center of law, mostly because she's the only one who could. Everyone was basically telling her "we're all fucked, the last thing we need is for you to be too."

Shows I've seen to or near completion. I had about 40-50 more, but cut that down because I saw them more recently than others (Bebop, SAO, etc.)., didn't like them as much, or couldn't be bothered. I've seen godly amounts of shows, but judging by the complete list, I gave up on more shit than I've actually completed. I figured having a list was better than me fishing for things until I caught something I wanted to watch again.

Only saw one Steins;Gate episode. I forget why I didn't like it at the time. I probably wasn't in the mood for whatever genre it was. I do have a tendency to give shows second chances. I mean, I've tried finishing Chrono Crusade like 3-4 fucking times. I got up halfway before giving up again. It's like the FFXII of anime for me. Unless I know I just hate a show (bad dub, stupid premise, lack of interest in a show), I am open to trying again.
