I actually believe him here. He might be lying about the whole "not scheme" bit he promised to, but I take his motives at face value here.

There's no chance Varys isn't telling the truth.

I don't disagree, BUT this is just how he plays the game of thrones. He truly does believe in what he says, but it is still entirely for self-preservation.

The point is, if Dany starts burning everything, he'll find a way to agree with it.

Tyrion is there for sure. I have hopes Varys won't be so blind to Dany Sue, but you're probably right.

It does seem like they are setting up a Dany vs Varys thing when she says "if I ever start going against the people..." which is obviously more like a "when"

Not only that, but Meera also name-checked him when she and Bran were brought into Castle Black last week and Edd asked who they were. She really didn't have to. So there's a chance he factors before the end.

I reckon Bran will be the voice here, though. There's a high chance he's in Winterfell by 7x04.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really liked the episode. 9/10. There's some things I'm worried about -- if there's no cost to the operation being performed on Joran, I'm going to be very disappointed; the cynical side of me still goes "killing off loose ends/10"; and the stuff in the North was kind of bad (I really thought they were building up to sending Sansa, which would have made sense, but NOPE JON GOTTA JON) -- but all in all, it was well done.

XP posted...
The whole Grey Worm/Missandei plot taking up all that time.

I mean, I still think of Missandei as being all of 10, but I thought the scene was pretty touching? My one complaint is that the nudity took away from the emotional impact somewhat, but it's GoT. Boobies gotta boob.

I do agree the fight scene was over-the-top, but tbh I'm okay with that? It doesn't fit ASoIaF, no, but it does fit GoT.

Tyene is 100% screwed because Cersei gets to kill her in front of her daughter like how Myrcella died in front of Jaime. Ellaria is 90% screwed because there has to be a 10% reduction after a death flag like Tyene's.

I also worry about one of my favs, Olenna.

They need to do something to weaken Dany because right now she's boring and OP, even with Dorne maybe out of the picture. Jaime was talking to Randyll Tarly, who I could see possibly dispatching of Olenna (well not dispatching - but maybe taking her to the queen to answer for treason) thus removing all of Dany's allies.

I think it gets worse for Dany before it gets better, actually. Especially with five episodes left.

Why would they possibly kill Tyrion when they could cripple her just as much if not more by removing some ancillary characters instead? Either something goes bad at Casterly Rock (considering Grey Worm and Missandei hooked up I could see that too as his character arc is basically over now) or she loses the rest of her alliance in the form of Lady Olenna being imprisoned and Randyll Tarly uniting her former lords under him instead. Then we actually have a fight for the final couple of episodes.

Oh yeah, I give Olenna relatively low odds unless she clings to Daenerys' location and I give Grey Worm 50/50. It's important to remember that the show has started playing with audience expectations of tragedy in recent years. Hot Pie outlives "don't get killed," Jorah has a fighting chance, Sam promises he won't die during the Battle at Castle Black and doesn't die. They might be setting up audience shock when Grey Worm lives. I know the media is already acting like he's hosed, for one.

Kinda sorta.

It would be weird for Euron to keep her alive honestly.

BUT it would complete Theon's character arc to rescue his sister from his uncle after he NOPE'D out of there (rightfully so, tbqh) at the end of last episode.

So I'm not sure what to think about her. Could go either way.

At this point I don't think Theon really deserves another redemption. He's just the way he is now, and he has to live or die with it. There's probably something there to him rescuing Sansa but not Yara, like to his core he really was more of a Stark than a Greyjoy or something.

I think he acted based on deep PTSD but there still exists some real logic and wisdom in his "fuck this, abandon thread" dive. Myranda was a lithe, petulant young woman who barely even registered Theon was there before he threw her over the wall back in Winterfell. Euron is a cold-blooded monster-class killer with his knife to Yara's throat and probably seventeen plots to dispatch Theon within six steps of him.
