I don't know if he used a different character in earlier rounds, but he only used Peach in Top 8. I think he simply just never faced the opponents he typically uses Fox against so he ended up just using Peach.

I think it's been the oldest game at EVO for the last five years.

I guess the only exception would have had to be part of Animevo, and there isn't anything pre-Gen-7 there from what I can tell. GG AC+ was really late PS2, and R is not the most major update. Melty Blood is harder to place because it's PC and got a late localization, but when I look, the original Melty Blood is post-Melee.

If we're counting side tournaments then there's definitely a Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo tournament every year with a non-negligible number of entrants. There might even be a Hyper Fighting tournament, that's the one other version of SF2 that still sees some level of play and is older than ST

Oh yeah, there are side games way older than Melee, but for official tourneys, no other game is even half as old. I actually think it's the oldest main game ever featured at Evo (what other game was 16 years old at the time of the event?).
