I'm not terribly familiar with that edition, but my advice is pretty universal for that branch.

At 5th level you're going to want to be upgrading your armor and weapon. Beyond that, look for something that'll buff your stats. I'm guessing strength would be most useful to you.

Or get something goofy and fun.

Or donate it to the church.

If you've put some serious thought into how your character thinks, this shouldn't be a problem.

Since you're asking, you didn't. That's okay though, you're new. I suggest buying something that upgrades your combat capabilities if available. If not, buy a bar/inn so your money is making money for you.

If all else fails, ask your DM for some ideas. After all, your DM is going to have to monitor whatever shenanigans you're going to get in to, best you have his/her blessing when you do it.

I'm a level 11 cleric. We have a platinum mine. Hasn't been much need for money for a while now. If the GM let's you, buy some OP gear. Not really sure what kind with a paladin though, probably follow the dude's advice above with that. Also portable holes, hewards handy haversacks, and bags of holding. Buy those, you only need one of the latter preferably hhh.

Our DM let's NPCs have OP spells, teleport and shit at level 1. So you should ask yours about that.
