This is again how they argue with spin instead of facts. Yes, if they burglarize a house and come across a gun they are taking it. Lmfao. Why wouldn't they? Most guns stolen ate found incidentally as most burglars avoid homes with guns due to risk.

Wait, what was the argument again?

If you're arguing that most criminals don't go into a house specifically to steal guns then... yeah I can see that.

But otherwise it's the person being home that's more of a threat than wherever or not they have a weapon. If only because they wouldn't know if said owner has a weapon or not.

I said normal burglars try to avoid houses that put up signs that state they have guns. It is a deterrent and a normal thing for a normal burglar to simply avoid to minimize risk.

Then they tried arguing burglars specifically try to rob houses with guns for some reason though every single link has guns far down the list of normal stolen items by a large margin. (Literally running out of items to steal to be above it).

I never said a burglar would not take a gun. I said most guns stolen are incidental from finding a gun in a house that they did not know had them.

Literally what does "running out of items" mean?

The original argument was "guns deter burglars".

https://www.safewise.com/blog/10-must-have-items-on-every-burglars-wish-list/

Guns are #6 on the very first result from Google, and in the Top 10 for the others.

What has any street value after

1. Money
2. Jewelry
3. Drugs
4. Electronics

The fact clothing and household items ranks higher on half the lists should be obvious how little guns are actually stolen.

And, yes, guns deter burglars. And the only way burglars know if they have guns is if they post that they have them or they are a known person to have them.

Guns have higher street value than most electronics yet are below them. Same with clothing.

What could feasibly be higher than guns after you remove everything of street value? Toilet paper? Rags? Towels? Cumbersome items such as couches and beds? Like, Tony, you are way smarter than you are acting here. You do not have to argue everything I say. This is a ridiculous one to argue.

Most burglars are more likely to avoid houses with small loud dogs than houses with guns. After all if the owners aren't home, you can steal the gun. But that dog will not be quiet, and attract unwanted attention your way.

Anecdotal, I know, but someone who lives near me has one of those "Trespassers will be shot. Survivors will be shot again." signs in her yard. And she was robbed.

Do you not see how YOU are arguing with spin?

None of the lists you cite prove your claim. You are making the leap from "gun are less stolen than other valuables" to "thiefs avoid houses with guns" as if it logically follows A to B

That's not how arguing with facts works

I have broughten facts. Your one brothers in arms claimed guns were stolen a ton when it is actually to the bottom of all lists and I think not in the top 5 of any.

The fact you just lack street smarts and are oblivious to real life (and think most burglaries happen like home alone) is on you.

I mean maybe they are. But I doubt it is very far off on some.of those items.

If they rob my house and take everytjing I have here... they are getting like $13 in change, $400 in jewelry, no ipads, and no guns. Lol.

If they rob my fathers house. They are getting around $200 in money, around $500 in jewelry, no ipads, and 30 guns.

Once you acknowledge nothing of street value is below guns ans guns is so low despite a high street value, your argument tends to fall apart.

Common sense and any bit of street smarts would lead you to you go for the easy marks and don't ever try to hit places that could be issues.

You avoid busy areas. You avoid security systems, cameras, dogs, known gun.owners, and houses with people at home.

Older people are your best targets.

What really gets me about this whole gun being a great deterrent thing is...

Do you really keep a loaded weapon laying around the house? I mean if you don't have kids, I guess it's not a big problem. Worst that can happen is you shoot yourself. But if you DO have kids... I mean I won't let my kids go to anyone's house if they own a gun, and they don't keep it locked up. Because it's way too easy for a kid to get their hand on a weapon, and shoot someone. It happens way too often.

People are also way more likely to shoot a member of their own house. If you live alone it's probably not that dangerous though.

Of course I have no problem with people owning guns for protection. But I'd like to see them be responsible gun owners.

Again. You are trying to apply home alone to the situation because you are at odds with reality.

Dude.

Literally who said this? Because I defi-fuck-ingly did not.

I think one person mentioned the word stake-out, but I don't think they said WEEKS, and I definitely didn't say it at all.

So how do you know ppl are not home if you have t staked the house out? No car no light = guess not home?

Are TV's even worth that much anymore? I got a 50 inch TV for less than $400.

They arent and they go for relatively less on the street. Thats why electronics being higher than guns is pretty crazy tbqh.

The thing I've been waiting for Corrik to figure out is that guns are registered, and thus much harder to flip for cash.

Money, jewelry, TV, you can take those to any pawn shop

Reputable pawn shops (oxymoron?) won't take a gun without all the paperwork

Thanks for killing your own argument before I made it.

So ultimately you're saying that, as far as theft deterrence goes, an obvious "gun owner" sign is ACTUALLY what deters burglars

Lets put it this way. You Jakyl are a junkie. You haven't had your fix in 24 hours. You need cash to get your fix. Your walking around your town. You see 2 houses 60 feet apart. Both have no cars home and no lights on. One says God Bless our Home on the front door and the other says Beware Gunowner. Trespassers beware. Not afraid to shoot.

Which do you steal from?

Guns not ranking higher couldn't possibly have anything to do with guns being less common to find in most homes to begin with.

Is that what you think? You think guns are in less homes than jewelry, prescription painkillers, furs, ipads?

The fact you can't figure that out is wild to.me.

Yes Corrik I would argue the things on that list would be far more common to find in a home than a gun. That is the purpose behind that posts existence. Since we are adding anecdotal evidence I would like to mention litterally everyone I know has at a minimum 2 tvs and a tablet of some kind. As well as watches, jewelry, medications, and other electronics. But only 2 people I know keep a gun in their home. I don't know anyone with any real furs though so I guess you got me there.
