I mean it's noncanon now (thanks Disney) but did George Lucas ever acknowlege any of it as canon while he was in charge?

From what I understand, anything that didn't contradict something that was already considered Canon before it, was considered Canon.

But by that definition, TFA would therefore be noncanon.

Lucas basically said that there were two canons. One was just the movies, one was literally everything in the legends / extended universe except for the parts that directly contradicted the movies.

So if you want to debate something regarding star wars (under Lucas) and you use the Extended Universe, you must use all of it unless it contradicts the movies.

Otherwise, only the movies count.

But what if it doesn't contradict the movies, but it contradicts another piece of the extended universe that is also considered canon?

Movies were automatically canon, and were the first authority. If a new movie was released that contradicted earlier EU lore, then that lore became non-canon.

Nothing other than the movies really counts as canon cause everything contradicts eachother. That's the wonderful thing about starwars is it allows many open interpretations of what the universe is.

I don't think Lucas ever really cared about the EU or even really knows much of anything about it.

I would also suspect that he doesn't consider any of the new movies being made to be canon.

Not anymore. Now only Disney gets to decide.

What about the two different Clone Wars animated series? I only watched the first one so I don't know if those two contradicted each other. But wouldn't they be perfectly valid as Canon seeing as how George Lucas supervised them? Same goes for almost every Star Wars video game, if not all of them.

Even the Christmas special?

The cartoons were Canon and still are. The new comics that started after the Disney purchase are also canon

They were never canon.

The problem is that people don't understand was "canon" is... The idea of "canon as long as it doesn't contradict anything" is laughable. Just some dumb shit to keep fans happy.

You can argue about old canon "levels" all you want but Filoni has flat-out said that the only things he and George ever considered canon pre-2014 were the movies and TCW
