Super Paper Mario is the last one I played. I didn't even finish it because it was so boring. It's the kind of game that doesn't really fit into a defined genre, but not in a good way. I guess it's considered a platformer, but it doesn't have the interesting action or precision of one. Basically it plays like the previous games, but with the turn-based combat stripped out and replaced with...? I don't even remember how the the combat works, that's how forgettable it is
I think the ones after added some kind of combat gimmick but supposedly suck even worse ... Copied to Clipboard!

that's what i mean.
the first paper mario, and TYD are actual RPGs, and the rest i don't think are. i want to play one, but i'd rather not have to buy a new gamecube memory card and controller to do so --- Vote to keep the ability to hide the tabs on the Xbox One Dashboard https://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/363186--new-ideas/suggestions/19542517 ... I've only finished Super Paper Mario so far, despite having every game besides Color Splash. SPM still retains many elements of an RPG; there's items, leveling, towns, and IIRC some quests. It's just that platforming takes a much bigger focus than previous games.
If you're willing to get past the fact that it's different from its predecessors, it's got a lot of fun, charm, challenge and content. The story is unexpectedly well done, with some twists and turns along the way. And its the game that gave us this gem: https://media0dk-a.akamaihd.net/31/37/c05fdbaa49249862fd6512b164892304.jpg --- Official King of PotD You only need one T-Rex to make the point, though. ~ Samus Sedai ... The closest you will get on 3DS to the Paper Mario series is the Mario and Luigi series.
Actually the 5th game in the series is a crossover with Paper Mario. Never played the games personally so can't tell you which are good or not. ... Copied to Clipboard!

where I think the other games were RPGs with platform styling, SPM is more like an actual platformer RPG hybrid. it's definitely worth playing.
