regularly pull $120+ in tip a night for a ~5 hour shift (plus $14/hour minimum wage; don't see nearly all of it, though, due to the tip, but still) here in san fran
it's a really busy restaurant, too, so the shifts always fly by i also get a free/discounted dinner every night definitely recommend as a part-time job if you can handle the stress and are quick on your feet and can juggle a lot mentally --- It's as if it were all a dream. ... Copied to Clipboard!

can't speak for others, obviously, but i rarely ever complain
the pace is something i especially enjoy, considering how quickly it makes time go by, and how there's always something to do though i guess my biggest gripes would be extremely picky eaters who make me have to put in heavily modified orders (holds me up while i'm both taking and putting in the order), and gluten-free people (i work at a ramen restaurant; like, wtf are you doing here if you can't eat gluten?) people who just stare at me blankly while i'm holding multiple bowls of ramen as if they've forgotten what they ordered (we often have to bring food to tables we didn't personally service, so i don't know who ordered what; this also holds me up), and the narrow spaces at my restaurant (lots of weaving through and around people/tables and hugging walls) are gripes to lesser extents, too, i suppose --- It's as if it were all a dream. ... I was bartender for the longest time before I got a big boy job. I would work full time though at my place usually about 8 hour shifts
I worked in a bowling alley so weekdays were slow but weekends would mean 200 dollars at least. Parties some serious cash. A Christmas party I made 1,200. I miss those days so bad --- Cubs, Rockies, A's, Grizzlies, Bulls, Cowboys, Patriots. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'm thinking about jumping shift from fast food to either serving/waiting, barbacking or work as a barista.

yeah, definitely look into some restaurants
preferably those that: - are busy (since this will directly correlate with how much tip you'll be making) - specialize in a cuisine that you're already familiar with (will lessen the learning curve by that much more) - have smaller menus (makes it waaaay easier to familiarize yourself with the food and recognize what's coming out) - have a pos system (so that you don't have to otherwise learn shorthand for the chefs and can just jot down orders however you want) fast food is like all of the stress without the pay for the same amount of hours worked makes no sense to stick with it if you can help it --- It's as if it were all a dream. ...
