Called "Degrassi: Next Class"

It has trigger warnings, genderfluidity, pronoun changing, tons of feminism, white guilt, refugees, and half the characters are gay... basically everything you could want

Yeah.

The gf changes "their" pronouns to "they" and "them" and the bf is thought of as a bad person for leaving "them". By the end of the season the bf begins to accept it, but then someone mistakes the gf's gender and "they" say not to make a big deal about it. Then the bf gets mad , asking what was the point of all this if it's not a big deal. Then the gf says the bf is a bad person for not accepting "them" and that's the last time they mention it in the season.

Each season's "outcast" kid is fucking hilarious. The obvious Gamergate dude, the unintentionally racist chick, the suicidal ex-feminist chick, the Syrian refugee loner... Amazing characters.

I don't know how seriously the show is supposed to be taken or how often we're supposed to be laughing at it.

It had them and took them seriously. It didn't have them just to have them.

New Degrassi goes over-the-top with the stereotypes and can't really portray any of the struggles with any grace at all. It probably started being a joke series multiple seasons back when they had the closeted footballer and the asperger's kid acting ridiculous.

I've always found it hilarious tbh. Degrassi has always been one of my favorite shows. Just have fun while you are watching it instead of getting all triggered and it'll be great.

The show has always been one very long PSA with unintentional hilarity. It doesn't sound like anything has changed with this new string of episodes.

Degrassi definitely used to be better than it is now. Remember when JT got killed? That was some serious stuff. And probably the most famous moment in Degrassi history is when Drake got shot.

Honestly most issues have been done already so all they can really do is redo the same issues or do SJW garbage. They still do both of those, and IMO the redone issues can definitely be interesting while the SJW garbage is just stupid.

Yeah the show's always had humor. Though in like the first six seasons I still felt that these could be real kids in a real high school somewhere. Nowadays it's insanity.

Kill me

And the reason there was confusion was because "they" (or "ze", which was actually mentioned in the show lmao) decided to wear a male crown at prom and a photographer thought that "they" and her BF were a gay couple.

The BF is still considered awful for not wanting to deal with this and his friends didn't want to be seen at prom hanging out with him if he didn't get back with "they". But however when he does accept her at prom, they charge that by being with "they" the BF can no longer be considered heterosexual, and is maybe bi/poly/pansexual instead.

Two of the friends judging him are a flamboyantly gay dude and a wannabe alpha pickup artist. The Syrian refugee is standing there not understanding anything that's going on.

There's basically no way to describe this shit without it seeming like a parody lol.

The guy's arc was actually pretty good tbh.

He was driven out of Syria by the war and is separated from a lot of his family and friends. I don't remember if he lives with his aunt and uncle but I think it's with some sort of extended family and he is usually in charge of his younger siblings. Anyway, they show the Belgium terror attacks and he gets annoyed that it seems like the world stopped because of a Muslim terror attack on non-Muslims in a non-Muslim country while hardly anyone cares that Syria and plenty of other countries live like that every day.

When he tries to convey this, people accused him of being a terrorist sympathizer and even an outright terrorist. He gets pissed off and yells in Arabic and throws a Belgium support T-shirt in the trash. Someone recorded it and put the video on social media, so everyone gangs up on him. He's also being blamed by some people for a girl's suicide attempt. One of them tries to bully him about it, breaking his camera (he took photos of the suicidal girl in all these morbid poses and settings prior to her attempt) so I think he either slapped him or punched him but either way everyone starts talking about how he's crazy and violent. One girl trusts him and gives him a job at her family's restaurant. Someone steals the tips and he gets blamed then fired, so people think he's a violent, thieving terrorist.

All of these things leave him feeling very alienated by everyone around him, longing for home and his old life, so he starts being friends with someone online. They identify with him and tell him he should come home and he can support him and take care of him. I don't think they ever explicitly stated but it's heavily implied that it's some kind of extremist/terrorist trying to prey on him and recruit him. He realizes the guy is bad and has a nerd student (the aforementioned genderfluid person) and ze wipes his hard drive and scrubs all his social media stuff so it can't be traced back to him if anything happened. In one exchange, however, the refugee said something along the lines of making them pay or some kind of menacing remark and ze takes a picture of it.

He's starting to feel better about things and it looks like it's going to be okay until there's a bomb threat and genderfluid person remembers the screen shot ze took and reports him to the authorities. It turns out it was a crazy girl trying to keep her ex from going to prom with his ex and he's released.

Later on, the girl who fired him, gender fluid student, and someone else go to his apartment and explain everything to him and apologize to him. Everything is copacetic.

I have no personal experience with radicalization but it was interesting to see the workings of how a young person in the West could end up flirting with that kind of thing, even if it is just in the context of lame high school drama. It was kind of abrupt and was anti-climactic in how everything was okay but for a teen's TV show, I thought it was good. Would be cool to see a real TV show about it.
