I don't understand the need for reparations, and in fact I don't see how it will even lead to a mending of race relations as Mr. Nevel (who is White) suggested. However, the aspiring mayor didn't exactly handle this in the best way, especially when he said this:

"The reparations that you talk about, Mr. Nevel, your people already got your reparations. Your reparations came in the form of a man named Barack Obama."

Am I the only one who's paywalled from this site? You guys aren't subscribed, are you? I mean it's WaPo for cripes sake.

Anyway, since I can't read the article, it sounds like he's talking about black people demanding reparations, not black people in general. I agree with him. They don't necessary have to go to Africa, they can go anywhere since they're clearly not happy in this country. The people who complain about not receiving reparations based on actions from a few people centuries ago have spent their entire lives with a racist grudge, blaming all white people for all problems, and believing they will always be owed something. What do you think would happen if we gave these people a big fat check or payments every month for the rest of their lives, that they'd shut up and be satisfied and everything would be good? Sure, and I'm Wonder Woman. But seriously, they would spend the rest of their lives protesting, complaining, and demanding more as is the nature of any government sugar baby. Whenever you give unconditionally to a child, they don't thank you for it, they just wonder what else they are entitled to and why you aren't giving that to them. If anyone is living in the United States and is unhappy that they don't receive free money, I have two words for them: Bye Felicia.
