Always inundated with depictions of wealth and things you can't have. Any attempt to be nice or encouraging is ridiculed. You give a kid a trophy for participation so he feels good about himself and peole get pissed off. A kid feels good about himself triggers people. The USA is riddled with prejudice and inequality but on a more basic level we are mean to each other. There is little kindness, no community. Love is seen as weakness and everyone is fighting and arguing all the time. America is a business, not a country.
