Exactly when and how that might happen has yet to be determined, but it would be wise to bet against Affleck starring inÂThe Batman. He has already stepped away from directing the film and Reeves is dropping the script that Affleck wrote with D.C. Entertainment’s Geoff Johns.

DC keeps on ruining themselves I guess. Affleck was one of the better parts of BvS even though he does little real detective work, and kills a crap ton of people.

the whole article is based on speculation based on nothing but Ben's age and starts off with this little tidbit:

But a source with knowledge of the situation says that the studio is working on plans to usher out Affleck’s Batman — gracefully, addressing the change in some shape or form in one of the upcoming DC films.

Sure. "A source"

I bet it's the same "source" that said Wonder Woman was a steaming pile of shit a year before it was released.

No idea why they thought starting a cinematic universe with an old Batman was a good idea.

The delays for The Batman is just making that decision even worse.

I don't think DC really understands how to make a successful cinematic universe. They can make good movies as evident with Wonder Woman, but they are really struggling at connecting them together. Really didn't help they tried to jump headfirst with BvS.

I really loved the whole "Bruce trapped in Arkham" movie Ben was going for but it seems there is just too much studio meddling for that now.

Wonder Woman was really good. It showed that there is potential for the DCEU. The question always was what is there next steps and there current next steps don't look favorable.

The problem was that the director had to fight tooth and nail to get it the way she wanted it to be. That is how bad DC is right now. A good director had to fight to get the movie she wanted out over garbage DC wants.

In the context of the rest of the article, it sounds like they will "age him out" while Terry McGinnis (Batman Beyond) and potentially Damian Wayne step up to fill the void. Bruce would probably show up and be more like a Nick Fury type of character.

But.

1. This is literally all speculation based on nothing but Ben's age
2. It is using this speculation as justification to paint a picture of this nonsense that DCEU is a sinking ship despite each movie making hand over fist in profits even if most of them undersold expectations.
3. The sinking ship rumor is totally unfounded and is being regularly contradicted by actual named WB staffers and not "a source"

The problems the DCEU have had are not with Zack Snyder, but rather executive meddling with the film directors. Now that Geoff Johns is in charge of literally everything, there is likely going to be a lot less bullshit.

One could go back and chronicle the history of events from Ant-Man and cry from a roof that the MCU was a sinking ship but we know that's not true and it never was even if the movie was stuck in development hell for a long time and purged directors/scripts multiple times.

That doesn't matter too much since RDJ plays a dude in a robot suit. His age doesn't really matter. In 5 years we're gonna have a Batman (a very physical role) in his 50's. At this rate we're only gonna have 1 solo Batman movie out by then. Perhaps 2 if their shit is together by the second.

If Ben sticks around as long as RDJ did he'll be in his mid 50's and I'm guessing they'll want Batman around for longer than 10 years.

Fourth fucking time "a source" has said Affleck is leaving the role despite everyone else saying otherwise.

Can we just see this for what it is, and not act like it's the inevitable truth only for Affleck to personally confirm that he's staying on again?
