It's also sad.

Jade is actually a good character. Not accepting her because "She's not black enough" is just being racist... Which is the thing people are supposedly trying to fight.

Yeah, there is definitely a lot of double standards when it comes to stuff like this from gamers and anime/manga fans.

Off the top of my head, my favorite "are you serious?" moment has to deal with yoruichi from bleach.

According to certain people, she is totally not black.....she doesn't have "stereotypical exaggerated in art, mostly japanese art, black features, like huge lips, giant nose, etc." There is also an argument from these same people that these are totally japanese samurai ghosts, so she is middle eastern egyptian brazillian everything under the sun besides black, because apparently, she is too hot to be black.

They are 100 percent, bona-fied black, no questions asked, lol. (Not even getting into the fact that like yorouchi, the vast majority of these dudes is also japanese samurai ghosts, and the one dude with a orange fro' is from ghost mexico or whatever, and also happens to have a lighter skin toned compared to yorouchi, but nah, he is totally black, do not question it). The messed up implications with all this is that in certain people's eyes, a character has to have ugly facial features and be extremely dark to be considered black when it comes to video games and anime/manga, if they do not have these exaggerated features and they happen to be cute or hot, then here comes to mental gymnastics about how they can not possibly be black, lol.

Lol, you sound upset. (That, and I myself never called any of the dudes black, and actually agree that they aren't, derp. I've only ever called yoruichi black because why not, and honestly, it always bugs me out seeing certain people get so bothered over calling her black that they play the mental gymnastic games, so I will always keep calling her black for that reason also, lol. Definitely can make a strong case for tousen and %u014Cetsu for not being japanese though).

Jade was most certainly black when she first debuted.

As an MK head, i agree. Jade definately looked black back in the MK trilogy and arcade days. Her picturs even had the intense, almost stereotypical black woman face. In mk9, she definately became more latina looking lol
