Dear lord this album is good. One of the best I've ever heard, and I never thought I was a fan of this style.

I'd heard Jeremy before, of course, but the rest is on the same tier.

I agree here. Black was fucking incredible. Absolutely raw -- no glorifying it, no rage or bitterness. Just splendid, beautiful agony.

I always thought I didn't like Pearl Jam except a few songs.

And then I found out all the songs I liked were on one album. So it's kinda true except damn that's a good album.

It's funny, almost everything on that album was made on a whim too. From the idea of the band to writing the songs to finding Vedder to recording.

Even though the lyrics are what they are the group wanted to create something to rock out too in their own theoretical big stage. In the early years they weren't that depressed and wanted to have a good time. I would say it worked.

I personally like VS more, it's way more raw. But yes, Ten is a darn good album.

I heard Candlebox's Far Behind on the classic rock station the other day That's 1994.
Give it just a few short years and Linkin Park will be there too.

Then again the alternative station also plays new things as well as late 80's and The rock station plays new things and stuff from the 60's actually...so who knows whats going on

See, I'd be okay with them calling it "classic rock." That means it's been around a while, but it's dignified. It's got the respect of time on it's side. Plus the term itself doesn't feel as inherently ancient to me as "oldies". Growing up, to me, oldies was the 50s and classic rock was the 70s. So basically, -40 years and -20 years. When we reach 2020, the 80s can be considered oldies, but not the 90s.

(Ignore the bad rounding on my math.)

It's pretty much Ten but live and on steroids.
Abbruzzese was their best drummer IMO and the whole group was jacked up becasue this was their first concert of that size.

Back in the day, it was Alive and Jeremy. Even Flow was an afterthought. (Then again, so was Black, and that's the best song on the album.)

Then again, back in the day, Nirvana was the bigger Seattle band.

None of this is really true though

Black and Even Flow charted the highest off of 10. Black wasn't even released as a single, it just got spread by DJ and fan preference.

Alive and Jeremy were on SNL which helped them a great deal

Pearl Jam's early records sold more then Nirvana. VS had the record for most first week sales until the Backstreet Boys came along and this was without major promotion or videos to accompany the record.

Nirvana had the bigger hit, but Pearl Jam was the bigger band. After Kurt died Nirvana's popularity skyrocketed.

And that's all good and fine. You can quote whatever the official numbers were. But I heard Alive and Jeremy way more on the radio, and they also came first, which meant the band's popularity wasn't nearly as in full swing.

As for Nirvana vs PJ, Nirvana was bigger...I saw way more signs of fans of Nirvana than Pearl Jam probably all the way up until Kurt's death. Pearl Jam is the objectively better band, but everything Nirvana did was huge.

It was never pj vs. Nirvana. The two co-existed. It was pj vs. Stp. And really you could only be on one side.

Id have taken Scott Weiland over Eddie Veder any day.

brains lie to us all the time. Even Flow charted higher than Alive and Jeremy both in the US and in Seattle, which means it was played more than Alive and Jeremy both in the US and Seattle. Even Flow came before Jeremy as well. I don't know where you were that Even Flow was an afterthought, dude.
