I think it's a really good addition actually. Good way to call someone who you think might be interested in a topic/have something to say, get someone's attention when you reply to their post (as opposed to having to send a PM or hoping they check the topic) etc

Can i simply turn mention notifications off? Why wouldnt this be an option?

It's kind of obvious why they would be useful if you posted in a lot of topics and someone needed to get your attention, but I do agree that there either needs to be a way to turn mentions off, or make it to where you can't mention people more than once in the same thread if they don't check their notifications.

It's a good way to get the attention of another user for something you specifically want to let them know about or want their opinion on.

The problem is really that quoting someone who @ someone will also have you @ them. And the one user who bumps dead topics @'ing people to respond to him.

It tells you who mentioned you so if you mention and delete it, which is a moddable offense, then you can still see who did it. I dont suggest you continue to do this.

I don't know, but it allows me to say something to you and you be alerted that I was talking to you. You may have multiple threads or forget you posted in a topic, so when I @ you, you're summoned.

It feels like my daughter saying "HEY DADDY! I NEED TO TELL YOU SOMETHING!" instead of an adult simply saying something. Its obnoxious and makes no sense why implement it and not a simple option to turn them off.

It says even people you ignore can mention you and youll still get the mention notification.
