Whenever the "Deus Ex Universe" splash screen pops up

They had such high hopes, and now Deus Ex is dead.

Mankind Divided got way too much undeserved hate as far as I'm concerned. In fact I'd say it was GOTY in 2016, and better than Human Revolution in certain respects (while also weaker in a few others).

It pisses me off that Square-Enix shelved both the Deus Ex and Sleeping Dogs IPs. I wish they'd just sell them off to someone who'd actually make use of them.

It's a great shame. I blame Square Enix to be honest. I think they'd be onto a winner too if they gave Eidos Montreal the resources and let them get on with it.

At least Cyberpunk 2077, System Shock 3 (with Warren Spector on board) and the System Shock remake are on the horizon.

Yeah, definitely. My only real disappointment was that I wanted more.

What I will say is that the PC version was a bit hard to run. It looked great though, to be fair.

Personally, I wouldn't go so far as to say my only disappointment was that I wanted more from the game. I do feel it was underwhelming in a few respects, such as only having one real city-hub (unless you count Golem City, but that didn't really feel like a city-hub to me), where it takes place (the Czech Republic didn't strike me as an ideal setting for cyberpunk), and I do feel the overall story could have been fleshed out a bit more.

But they're all minor grievances in an otherwise amazing game. The only other major issue I kept hearing people complain about was the DLC practice, and honestly I didn't really care. Aside from the Season Pass content (assuming you wanted more story stuff to play) all the other DLC like buying praxis kits and credits was entirely optional and not necessary so I never understood why people got so mad about that. I will say that the pre-order scheme they originally announced was pretty shitty, but at least they changed it when they got all that blowback.

GOTY to a game whose main story was literally cut in half to be put in for sequel bait? No. Fuck what they did to Deus Ex.

True. I was kind of classing that as wanting more though. Another hub would've been great.

I forgot about the DLC actually. It definitely wasn't handled particularly well. The Witcher 3 showed how it should be done, by giving you the option of playing the DLC as part of the main game or separately (with one or two other options).

Honestly, I don't know what there is to hate about the game other than how abruptly it ends.

But yeah, that's not the games fault. That's Square-Enix fault I think.

It's super short.

as a big Deus Ex fan I can't blame them for canning the series. There's no money in Single Player gaming anymore and the Microtransactions/pre-order stuff was rightfully shit on.

So from Square Enix perspective why spend so many years on a project that barely makes money when for a fraction of effort you can make bank?

Modern gaming.

Still it gave us the "Jenson is actually dead this is a clone" theory which is one of my all time favorite "Insane yet actually adds up" fan theories of all time

The hub is probably the best hub out of any video game so far at least. There's so much crap to discover and do. I can understand where all the development time went and why they ended up downscaling the game and plot.

But it's nearly all optional. If you don't do the sidequests the hub doesn't really matter much at all.

While this doesn't help at all I doubt Deus Ex was gonna survive regardless if Square-Enix had to choose to kill off a franchise between Tomb Raider, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and Deus Ex. That decision was always gonna be Deus Ex.
