Do you need that reassurance that the stuff you buy is selling well because it reinforces your taste and you can tell other people who choose to buy competing products that their taste is poor?

I care only as far as sales are good enough that a series I enjoy doesn't end up canned. It'd be tragic if Etrian Odyssey sold like crap and all future plans were cancelled.

I pretty much only ever buy games on sale. I'll put it on my steam wishlist and just wait for the eventual email telling me that now's a pretty good time to buy it.

Sales determine if a company will continue making similar games, so yes, I care.

That can go both ways btw. If a game introduces anti-consumer bullshit and it sells well, it can become the industry standard. That's how things like on-disc DLC, season passes, shipping "broken" games, overpricing, etc. got out of hand.

I want series/niche genres I like to sell well so more of them get made.

I hope some games that I think are good sell well. Though a game selling well doesn't mean it's good and the same way the other way around. Look at Klonoa on the Wii. It is regarded as an amazing game by fans yet sold very poorly. Apparently under 30,000 copies.

Do they effect my enjoyment of the game? No not really.
One of my top five favorite games of all time, Elite Beat Agents, sold like shit but its still in my fave five.

Do I hope that they sell so I could get more? Yes.

If I enjoy a game, I'd like it to sell well. If the company crams in paywalls or forced DLC, I want it to bomb.

It doesnt affect my enjoyment of the game but i would like Atlus and Square Enix games to sell more

This is the only reason I check on game sales as well. Also, I love the EO games too. <3

I want the games I like to meet sales expectations at least to increase the chance of a sequel.
Though things that already go past 1 million already have it made so I do stop caring then.
