I made this.
Sounds alright, but I still feel like it's missing a 'backbone'. The problem is when you add too much stuff it can start feeling too chaotic. The piano doesn't sound as distant as I want it to as well. Maybe it's not high quality enough. Maybe I should play it on a real piano. The ending should feel happier too I think. And I made this. The plucking guitars are actually placeholders for now. I need to reduce the levels of 'drab' and make it sound cooler. Those sound really cool!
I didn't notice a missing "backbone" as you called it, though. Depends on the game, maybe? You could always leave it as it is until you get more of a feel for what the game's atmosphere will be. --- Working in a team is great! It always helps to have someone else to blame. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Those sound really cool! Thanks. I feel like I'm missing a lot of school, that's what. You can get away with that a lot of the time but when you get into the orchestral composition there's an order to things you miss. It's not AAA quality and that bugs me. The theme is supposed to be techno but also grim and alien. The second song sounds like a cross between NiN and Tool to me, and I'm pretty happy with that for the most part. --- ... This would be the cutscene music for a game-over scene where you're buried alive. It makes your ears bleed and then it gets kind of sad, but then that's probably how you'd feel if you were buried alive. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Interesting, I followed you on soundcloud (Lord Draw). Wow, you've got some serious production quality and your following shows it. Do you think it's a good investment to get real physical equipment? How about a class? You've got some sorts of dials on your profile too, and it seems like the quality of your sounds is something I still don't really reach. I might as well invest, I always come back to music production. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Violet_Blooded posted...Interesting, I followed you on soundcloud (Lord Draw). No need for physical equipment unless you are planning to make a living out of music, you just need a good music production software with a wide verity of plug-ins and instruments and you need to master it. As for class i never study music or anything but some tutorials online could help with methods and terminology and stuff.. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

What sort of software do you guys use? And which tutorials have you watched? I use Ableton. I never really watched a lot of tutorials, I watched a tutorial on how to use midi and from there I just learned all the things it could do over 3 years just by experimenting with all the options and effects. Same thing with composition. I never learned "the right way". First I used Rytmik ~6 years ago, which was a $7 DSi app. The stuff I made wasn't "bad", but it was never going to make anything that didn't sound really low quality obviously. Then I moved on to Sony Acid, which was a buggy mess and pretty much a waste of time. Ableton I'm pretty happy with atm and I don't plan on switching from that. Fruity Loops seems more geared towards the rhythmic dubstep crowd, correct me if I'm wrong, so I never looked into it. And that's also my biggest issue with most tutorials in general, they're all geared towards the dubstep crowd and I'm not really interested in that. I was watching one of them and I hear something about "how every song should build up to drop the beat" and I'm like, that's a pretty narrow mindset even if you are doing dubstep. --- ...
