Why do we need a topic title AND poll title?

Having a debate with my friend about this right now. He says NBA, I say NHL. His rationale is NBA players have higher heart BPM during a game supposedly, but I say the NHL involves checking and getting checked by people going at higher speeds while also maintaining balance on the ice. There's a reason the NHL has more frequent line shifts/substitutions than there is in the NBA

Presumably so you have two chances to avoid typos and grammatical errors. 1 for 2 isn't too bad, I guess.

You're always doing SOMETHING in the NHL on the ice, even when the whistle is blown, it's not like other sports where you can stand around and wait for the next one. You have to balance on ice skates.

To expand on this. I have brought this up with some of my contacts in team medical staffs. A few that have worked in both junior hockey and college basketball. While that isn't a direct NHL/NBA comparison, the feedback I recieved was that hockey players are virtually unmatched in their physical output during games and practices.

Both on and off ice.

My opinion is that this comes from a more agreeable athlete. Basically a willingness to follow direction at a full effort.

Yeah I noticed after I posted it. Was going to word it differently but the title was too large so I reworded it and obviously failed at editing. :P

But I'm glad I'm not going crazy. Like I'll entertain a debate about which sport requires more skill (still say NHL but at least it's debatable). Think it's just because the NBA is his favorite league and doesn't really follow hockey so he can't admit it lol

He brought this up too as a point, but it's dumb and only said by people who haven't tried or can't skate. Skating can definitely wear you out and if you don't have good form it can chafe enough to draw blood

It's really not even close. Your friend is an idiot. NHL requires constant physical exertion on a level that's barely ever even reached for a couple of seconds in the NBA. "Relaxed" moments in the NHL are still more demanding than "relaxed" moments in the NBA, and the NBA has far more of them than the NHL does. Even during a large offensive possession in the NBA, at least one or two guys are doing little more than standing off to the side or slowly jogging around as distractions.

NHL is more physically demanding. Take Crosby for example the most he's played in a playoff game that didn't go to ot was 29 minutes. Or less than half of the game.

Where as LeBron is expected to play 40+ of 48 in the post season.

However to be a NBA star takes more athleticism. And to be an NFL takes more
