So, uhm, what does Dany have left?

The whole point of taking Casterly Rock was to show that the crown jewel of the Lannister family can be taken. It was meant to damage the faith in the Lannister name, by showing their own home can be taken.

It would be a discredit to the Lannister name, and the plotline, to just let the bulk of their forces be wiped out.

If they really, really wanted to, they could have Dany just bring the #rekt to her enemies with her dragons. However, they already addressed it in the show as to why they don't want to do that.

They're playing the hearts and minds game atm. If they could prove that the Lannister army, the single largest army in the seven kingdoms, can be defeated by their army, then they can slowly persuade the Lords/Ladies of the seven kingdoms to pull their support to the Lannister claim to the throne and back Dany, without ever having to let a dragon loose on King's Landing or one of the seven kingdoms.

It's a very iffy hand to be dealt and an even trickier hand to play.

Euron must have gotten a hold of Varys's teleporter device this season. He went from attacking Dany's fleet in between Dragonstone and Dorne last week to bringing his prisoners to Kings Landing this week to sneaking all the way around Dragonstone, Dorne and Hightower to Casterly Rock by the end of the episode.

Not to mention Jaime rode from Kings Landing, picked up his troops from Casterly Rock then rode to Highgarden and won a battle.

I know part of that could be handled by raven/runners but still, Euron isn't the only one.

I will say it is possible Euron took a smaller/fast ship to King's Landing, sent his Navy ahead of himself, rode out to a port and caught back up with them.

Still hella fast traveling going on, though

I'm not sold on Jaime passing on Olenna's well wishes, though I could see him bringing it up if Cersei goes on one of her "I'm going to murder the shit out of him" rants. I don't think Cersei would ever accept Tyrion not being responsible for Joffrey's death, anyway.

It wouldn't make much difference to Cersei. She tried to get Tyrion killed in the Blackwater battle before Joffrey died, she's always hated him regardless. Plus he still killed Tywin and he was responsible for sending Myrcella to Dorne. She wouldn't let go of her grudge over him not killing Joffrey.

Cersei can't win, she's maneuvering in a phone booth. Even if she beats Dany by some miracle the walkers kill her.

honestly I can't see her not attacking kings landing. I'm gonna be surprised if it doesn't basically go like this: dany attacks kings landing. the walkers attack the wall and the wall falls. kings landing is fucked up since dany was left with no choice but to attack with her dragons, maybe cersei even blows up the red keep with wildfire rather than be taken alive. the final season is set up with westeros in ruins and the white walkers marching south

of course, I haven't read any of the leaks so I might be way off base

it is strongly hinted throughout the series/books/etc that Jaime will murder her before she can do this, much as he did the mad king. the books make it far more clear than the show that she is legitimately insane.

i would guess suicide myself. he loves cersei. he doesn't really have any relationships of note with any other characters, except a minor one with brienne of tarth. his relationship with tyrion ended after he released tyrion and the dwarf killed his father.

it's "a dynasty for us." if he kills cersei he'd have nothing left. jaime has always been a weird sort of tragic hero ever since he lost his hand and made a friend in brienne. from then on he's played the fallen paladin character trope and has been seeking redemption. you find redemption in death.

might be that the way he kills her is a murder-suicide, like setting off her wildfire early and blowing the both of them up. but i always assumed it'd be with his sword. "widow's wail" was namedropped recently. gotta have some reason for that.

That begs the question of who's going to be the expendable "heroic sacrifice" mook come the final battle. Knowing the lack of subtlety in the writing that's been present, I reckon it's fairly likely that it'll come down to some moronic 2v1 situation against the Night King.

we can look to history to see how that works out.
it's exactly the kind of thing Hannibal did when invading Italy during the Second Punic War.
he figured that if he could beat the Roman armies (which he did gloriously several times) and besiege a few cities, he could get the Italians to pull their support to Rome.
and that just ended with him losing spectacularly at the end.

and she doesn't even have a Battle of Cannae on her side.

I don't understand the thing about budget constraints... isn't this one of the most successful tv shows ever? And if I understand correctly the network was trying to convince them to make 10 episodes in each of the last two seasons but the creators were like no way

I get the feeling that they're just trying to get rid of it and finish as soon as possible so that they can get started on their american civil war show

Everyone likes to blame D&D for everything, but I can downright guarantee that they're far from the only ones involved in the show that want the damn thing to end. GoT is easily some of the most complicated and time-and-energy intensive filming that's ever been done for an ongoing TV show. The cast and crew have spent the majority of the last half-decade living and breathing this show (considering it's all shot on location), and it's not hard to believe that they're all tired as shit of it.

Yeah I'm getting the impression that time is progressing a lot quicker than it used to and it's not necessarily shown in order of when it happened.

Sam and Jorah's plot took place over two days in the last couple of episodes for example. But I don't think the other plots did. I don't think Bran arrived the day after Jon left and Sansa has probably lead Winterfell for a few weeks.
