Currently at the point right after the Italian guy visits his home and I kind of hate it. The pre-credit part seemed like it was a parody comedy that made fun of the first one. Like pointing out how silly the whole thing is, as if the original film wasn't aware of that. And then after the credits with the Italian guy that was some of the most ridiculously forced interaction and exposition I've ever seen. Keanu Reeves' acting is dreadful. And for some reason Wick just stands there while the Italian guy makes some clear and obviously threats that really should make Wick at least get down to his basement bunker. Some sort of emo thing I'm sure, but it's still dumb.

And then the cop shows up and makes the exact same joke as he did in the first film.

Is this whole movie a parody comedy? Sort of like Evil Dead 2? I just want more of what I loved about the first film, not some sort of commentary on it or piss taking of it. I haven't been turned off so fast since Big the Cat showed up in the Sonic fanfic I was reading on Deviantart.

That's really early on. He kills more in John Wick 2 than he does in John Wick 1, let's put it that way.

I made a post about not liking the second one and got a little bit of hate for it but less than expected. I don't even remember it well now so I'll copy it from that site.

I hope I don't get lynched but I just thought it was meh.

For starters I hated that bullshit armor, being in a universe where seemingly tons of people in that field have it, you'd think these so called "professionals" would be much better at quick one shot headshots anyways but this dumb armor made gunfights a complete joke because he could just stand there getting lit up and be fine. They might as well have been shooting Nerf guns in the movie because that's how much I cared after it was established that everyone has a magic body armor and they won't die from being shot.
And I kinda felt like he was just too blatantly overpowered and stupid in this one. In stuff like the Catacombs scene where he's just standing in the complete open reloading and bullets are flying everywhere. He's basically me when I'm in my "one man army, just run around the map and kill people" mode in CoD which I get the point is that he'sÂsupposedÂto be a one man army and nothing was really plausible about the first either but I wish he would've at least tried to he more tactical or act like he wasn't 100% sure he couldn't be killed. For whatever reason scenes like to he house scene in the first one, while equally unrealistic, still felt more reasonable to me for my suspension of disbelief. the way he slowly made his way though the house, trying to pick them off slowly and showing some signs of planning. And touching on the stupid part, I kinda feel like the end was shit. I get the whole point of him wanting revenge and just being fed up and done with everything but for a character that was established to be this extremely logical and non-impulsive person, for him to just kill him in the Continental like that doesn't seem tonally consistent to me I feel like the character they established him to be wouldn't do that, that he would show more restraint and go about it another means. I feel like they just needed to set up a sequel so they did that. And I'm pretty pumped for part 3 btw because the last 10 mins were the best part if the movie and I'm really excited to see where they go with it, but still.
Some other random annoyances or I don't like how they reused the knife fighting moments from the first one and I also hated that they showed a pencil scene. Like I felt like it would've been better left as a story and actually shown, like we get it he can kill people with a pencil...

But for the things I liked, I really liked the world building of The Continental and all that stuff, I liked Keanu himself obviously, the mirror room scene was pretty great, and I really liked the concept of him having to fight his way back home after what happened in Rome. it sort of reminded me of The Warriors with it being a him vs the world type feeling of trying to get back home or in this case to The Continental. I actually wouldn't have minded if that had been a bigger part than it was. And I liked the straightforward, no fluff or filler way they continued to go with it just like the first.

All in all I'm pretty disappointed, it doesn't touch the original for me which was an instant modern classic of it's genre and and I just have a lot of issues with it. It's just kinda average maybe a little above average for me, so kinda bummed I really wanted to like it as much as everyone else. Still excited for the 3rd though.
