That's one of my favorites as well.

I also like the "The Village Closest to Heaven" one and "Letters From a Weakling."

Those short stories really are the best part of the game. They're just SO well written.

It is pretty damn good and it really doesn't let up in quality ever (although a few episodes in the chimera ant arc drag on a bit).

Just finished shirobako and damn what a good show.

I thought I was gonna cry if red hair didn't end up in the anime somehow while drinking alone at night all depressed and all her friends did reach their dreams but it turned out I was gonna cry regardless because I felt about the same way main girl did when she was watching the dubbing.

I loved this reference in Shirobako. If you didn't get it; MC is talking to a fictional guy who is obviously Hideaki Anno from Neon Genesis Evangelion fame; I just love that damn sofa color pallete'd after Shinji's EVA

AjyFPDa

Also, Shirobako is a must watch for anyone deeply intrigued by anime. It's an anime about making anime for gods sake.

One last thing, because of Shirobako, I can't help but feel amused when I see janky animation, because ultimately, someone had to say "this is OK". Qualidea Code was a kinda forgettable show from summer 2016, but It's really memorable to me because it constantly had janky animation evident in every episode, and I couldn't help but pity the production team.

HxH is definitely going in the top ten anime list, its just so good.
How am I going to live after this show is over? Fans waited ages for a good quality long running accurate version of the show. Then I am going have to wait years for a Hunter X Hunter anime that continues from (2011)?

Well at least Im only up to episode 55 right now, 1/3 of the way through.

Man, today I'm having shirobako withdrawals. Another painful lesson in japanese companies to hate. Apparently PA works (who made shirobako) just don't do sequels ever so in that sense it seems unlikely to get a season 2 and it has been some years since it aired.

On the other hand a few promising things that would lean towards a sequel. Firstly, it sold very well and won an award so clearly the show was received quite well and a sequel is likely to be profitable. Second, in a volume 3 interview they mentioned that originally the show was planned to be 4 cours, 1 of miyamori aoi as production assistant, one as a production desk, one as a line producer and the final cour as a full on producer. Considering only half of that made it to air they clearly have a story for the next 2 cours already worked out and my god do I want to see it. For so many of the characters it feels like the end of the anime is just the beginning and its such a shame for it to end there. Third, in a recent interview the people that made it mentioned they would possibly make a sequel if they could find a good theme for it.

I so don't want this show to be over. Theres also something about some new website coming up possibly indicating a new upcoming announcement.

It's starting to seem like there is this very real difference between anime that have a handle on realistic characters and struggles and anime that focus on an idealized childlike version of reality and I just can't find enough of the former. Everyone of them feels almost like an instant classic and reminds why I love anime in the first place. I want more anime that make me reconsider things about real life and it just feels like that comes along so rarely these days.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, 3-gatsu no lion, and this season's Sakura Quest are 3 recent shows that float that realism boat. Dem themes man. Sakura Quest isn't as praised as the other two, but I enjoy it a hell lot.

I dropped 3-gatsu after 1-2 episodes and I just keep not feeling like rakugo would be interesting although I'm sure I'll watch it eventually. Both of those seem to veer more towards the drama side of things as well which usually doesn't hold my interest without something else like comedy or action. I'll check out sakura quest.

It's weird you say that, because Shirobako is absolutely driven by drama, and supplemented with comedy. Its fast paced, which is a bit unusual in drama driven shows. Sakura Quest gets compared to Shirobako alot, but they're pretty different, and given what you said, I don't think you would like it. If you want me to explain why I like it so much, I'll give it proper justice if you're willing to read.

It's pretty unfair to drop 3-gatsu that early. The tonal shifts are jarring, but if you stick with it, you'll see why it's intended. Its themes and the way they're construed are the core appeal, and they shine is because of how good Shaft is with its craft.

And Rakugo, the reason people so vehemently praise it is because the vast majority of people who watch it don't think it's interesting at glance; They checked it out regardless of that fact only because of how praised it is and ended up deeply captivated by it.

Sakura Quest and 3-gatsu are SoL with drama, and Rakugo is a character-centric drama. I find that shows that are grounded to reality are more often dramas than not, and I like dramas and realism in general.

Yeah and I nearly dropped shirobako early on. It took all the way till episode 6 until I wasn't super bored. I vaguely remember people telling me that if I didn't like 3-gatsu by the time I dropped it then I probably wasn't going to. Maybe I'll go back but I just felt really uninterested in the main character.

I bet rakugo is gonna be something I kick myself for not watching sooner but it just looks so boring. Like the rakugo itself seems really boring so it seems hard to invest in someone wanting to get better at it.

Then again I guess good shows about an activity depend on how well they can sell the activity and not the activity itself. I didn't really care about how anime was made but shirobako made it interesting and I certainly didn't care about shonen jump but bakuman made it interesting so I guess I'm just not being fair.
