yea, I bought a Switch recently for the chance to play it, but I'm not feeling the game.

at first, I thought it was great, but the world isn't that fun, IMO.

the only thing that really appeals to me is the LoZ charm.

...I like MGSV more.

yea, and that part did suck. took me a while because i was playing it while half asleep on a flight (i cant sleep on planes so i played zelda most of the time), so for some reason i could not figure out how to do simple shit like cooking (i kept tossing food onto a campfire and not into the big bowls).

so far the game just doesnt do anything for me. i feel like a lot of the open world features are stuff ive seen in other games for years (like crafting, collecting stuff, etc) and so far the world just isnt interesting to me. i really miss the structure of the previous zelda games, and i think that the balance between open world dicking around and organized levels/dungeons/whatever is what makes a good open world game. so far in like 5 hours i havent seen much of that. i think games like GTA get this right because you can only wander around collecting acorns and sniping goblins for so long before you want some degree of structure.

im sure the game will pick up but so far im pretty bored. not ubisoft levels of dull open world games yet but IMO it's pretty uninteresting.

From my experience, people who are relatively new to gaming or have lost their imagination have a hard time understanding the fun of Breath of the Wild.

I mean, it's definitely not a perfect game. There are many issues. I'd even argue that it's really a single playthrough game at best, but it's a long playthrough and there is fun to be had.

Exactly what I just said. They tend to either be used to how most games are today or have no drive to just play a game to play a game and explore and have fun.

They need structure and need to be told what to do because the bare bones story isn't enough and they don't particularly enjoy exploration. That's really all Breath of the Wild has going for it.

It's not a bad thing or an insult, it's just that Breath of the Wild is a very make your own fun kind of game and not everyone wants or is capable of doing that.

it's like zelda mixed with skyrim/witcher.

i had a blast playing it but it still suffers like most "open world" games and that there's just not enough to keep you interested. like yea there's 120 shrines or whatever but if you don't care about that than it takes a big part of the reason to explore out of the game. same thing with the korok seeds although i only found like 100 something of them and never hunted for them. just got the ones i came across.

cooking you'll get better with. there's guides online and there's plenty of hints in game from books an characters.

i like the new direction but would still like more of the old format. i like having more items to use. then the game could definitely use more dungeons. i would like 6-8 big dungeons in the next game. speaking of dungeons they could use some work. they each had an interesting gimmick but they should be bigger and have way more enemies in them.

you're acting like well-designed levels and more linear games are for morons and only enlightened gamers play open world games.

so far all ive seen that you can do in the open world is fight random enemies, collect shit to cook/craft, and try and see if i can climb stuff before my stamina runs out. maybe later things will get complex but for now it's dull

havent really done any of the shrines yet so i'll hold my judgment on that, but im having a hard time being motivated to play zelda more when i have games like dark souls 3 on the backburner that i find more consistently entertaining

No, what I said is that people with imagination and who just like to explore like the game so if you're more of a gamer who likes structure or a game that is more about telling an interactive story you probably won't. I'm sorry that you feel that means you're not "enlightened" or a moron or whatever shit you're trying to attach to it.

I mean, if I was going to call you a moron it'd be for saying Witcher 3 is boring, not Breath of the Wild.

You could always just dart to the next story objective.

It makes it feel better once you start getting a little context and world building. It's not a ton, it really is a little, but I think it still helps a lot.

BotW is a front loaded experience. When you first start playing, you're in shock and awe but that soon wears off as you realize it's mostly empty and boring and things like the lack of story, dungeons, staples, music and that extremely trash weapons system, all further degrade that experience.

Definitely one of the worst Zelda out there. Even the trainwreck Skyward Sword felt better. I mean, there's a lot of fun in there. Just don't expect much Zelda.

BotW is definitely a "make your own fun" kind of game, really. There's a reason they marketed it as a "yes" game, because the game lets you try so many things that actually do something. If there's one thing I loved about Breath of the Wild over most other open-world games is the fact that you can traverse literally anywhere you want. I wish more open-world games had a similar function like that.

heres my problem with that concept... if you want to "make your own fun" then nintendo should have given you all your gear in the beginning (I assume there are a lot of items and skills i dont have yet).

like for example, a big deal in the game is that you can climb anything, but at the point im at in BOTW right now, my stamina bar is so low that i can only climb pretty small ledges, so i already cant get in on a lot of the really good stuff in BOTW. really all im qualified to do at this point is kill Bokoblins and collect apples

Actually, the runes you get on the Great Plateau are pretty much all you get. The "skills" you get for clearing Divine Beasts are just things that make the game easier (such as a protective shield, a revive, an AOE attack) and the only other things you'd find are upgrades to the runes and Spirit Orbs to upgrade your stamina and health.

Yeah. They pretty much did that to drive home the design of "go anywhere you want" with no restrictions. If you do keep playing though, I recommend using the Spirit Orbs to upgrade stamina over health so you'll have easier access to areas. There's a limit to how much stamina you can upgrade (get up to three wheels) so you'll be able to do health once that's done.

That's why you collect spirit orbs to up your stamina and cook foods to climb faster/give you a temporary extra stamina wheel. You can also exploit flat parts on the sides of mountains and run in place on them until your stamina goes up enough to keep climbing to flat ground. Just make sure you remember you can rest at fires because if you don't skip the rainy days then you'll have one hell of a time trying to climb.
