I'm doing night shift 3 nights a week and have nothing else for the rest of the week. I find on my 4 days off I'm just spending money, getting drunk, eating badly and not sleeping right because I'm just bored with a weird sleeping pattern. Is the only answer to get regular and just sleep days even on my off days?

I can't imagine working nights for that sort of pay I make 20 dollars an hour flat to do about 3-4 hours work during the 8. I mainly watch TV shows and browse, but if I was paid on the books I'd be making 30+ an hour. --- I hope this ****in' world ****in' burns away And I'd kill you all if I had my way ... We have this weird schedule where I work either 3, 6, or 14 night shifts in the month, and the other days I'm working during the day, with 4 off days. I use melatonin to help me transition. If I'm working that night, I take melatonin around 10am then sleep for like 6-7 hours, and I'm fresh and good to go for night shift. Then I sleep like 3 ish hours the next morning after I get home, and have the rest of the day to myself, then I sleep early that night, again with melatonin, and I'm back to normal that next morning. So you need at least a day to transition. If I'm working like more than 4 or 5 nights straight, I need melatonin on the first 2 days of sleeping then I'm transitioned.

I think I just need to do my days off better. I find it hard to stay awake for very long because I'll wake up early and then just pass out at like 3pm. I then wake up at about 8pm and ask myself what is even the point of being awake and I'll just keep sleeping, sometimes up to 12+. I know I'm still getting 7+ hours sleep every night before work so these huge weekend naps I'm having can't be catch up. It must be the boredom which leads me to eat like shit which leads me to sleep a lot so I don't have to deal with the pain of being full. --- I hope this ****in' world ****in' burns away And I'd kill you all if I had my way ... Yeah I've tried melatonin before and it really works. I have a real problem with waking up before work no matter how well rested I am though. I could hit the 8 hour (of sleep) mark 2 hours before I have to go to work but keep sleeping because I'm just being lazy, but I think that's my demon to battle. --- I hope this ****in' world ****in' burns away And I'd kill you all if I had my way ... I work nights, but I'm doing it 6 nights a week. So I obviously just sleep during the day and stay up all night even on my night off. I'd definitely recommend at least keeping somewhat close to the same schedule even on your days off. Maybe go to bed around 3 or 4 a.m. and get up early enough to have some daytime when you're not working. That way the transition back only being a few hours won't be so difficult to manage on the nights you do work.

Yeah, it must be why no matter what time I wake up I still get tired during the day if there is nothing that I want to do. My body must just be like "meh fuck it I normally go to bed at 2-3pm" even though I have just woken up at 8am. --- I hope this ****in' world ****in' burns away And I'd kill you all if I had my way ... it was motivation for me to get back into a masters program. that and it was only paying $14 an hour, and that was comparable to someone who manages a gamestop. See I'm still getting paid almost 2 dollars more than that an hour and I literally do fuck all. Get the occasional patron being annoying and sometimes they leave the kitchen a real mess, but the amount of work I do is usually the same no matter what. I really shouldn't be complaining, I think I'm just in a grass is greener situation. I've also had a two weeks for over eating and over sleeping, falling back into my nicotine habit; I think I'm just trying to blame the job rather than myself and I've come to terms with that. --- I hope this ****in' world ****in' burns away And I'd kill you all if I had my way ...
