Never was a fan of the original games… Though admittedly they did get me into sonic… Watching the video of sonic mania does nothing for me… I prefer the faster stages and lock on the of the newer games like generations or unleashed. I really like the lost world and the 3ds games also.
You need to see some of the sonic stages in unleashed to see great sonic speed!

Adventure and Generations are the two good games IMO. Well also All-Stars Racing Transformed if it counts but I wouldn't count it.

2, 2 for GameGear, Labyrinth and Adventure 2 are ok. Except 2 for GameGear had that damn hang glider that you couldn't use. I dunno if that was a glitch or what but basically if I made it to the hang glider as a kid, I considered the game beaten.

1 and Secret Rings are terrible.

Also I'm now kinda disappointed with myself at how many of those games I've played.

Choco, come on man. What is there to not love about Transformed? It's seriously the best Kart racer ever if you ask me.

I do remember one specific glitch that caused me some grief but it was pretty uncommon.

To me, the most fun tracks of Transformed were the retro ones from the previous game. That, I think, summarizes my issue with it quite well.

The transformations just aren't fun. Instead of figuring out how to make gameplay better, they just made "more".
In every race, you just keep switching between 3 completely different styles of gameplay, and I never liked having the regular karts taken away from me.

Compare that to Mario Kart 7 and 8. The underwater and antigravity sections only make a nuanced change to how you drive, but it's still a change you have to keep in mind while playing. And while I don't love the hangglider sections, I think it makes a positive difference compared to Transformed that you are constantly falling, and you will probably be thinking about your landing and how you continue driving during the whole thing.

That said, it's been a while since I played Transformed, and I don't remember how much I actually minded the hovercraft sections and maybe it was just that the flying felt weird/

Mario kart eight is laughably overrated and bland. Granted I do not like Mario and I do not like that generic universe but the game just isn't nearly as fun or innovative as transformed. I find it as funny as people who just automatically think halo is the gold standard for first person shooters when there are so many better first person shooters...

Sonic Advance 1 was the true Sonic 4 before Sonic 4 actually came along.

Never said you weren't but sonic 4 is just legitimately bad. How they managed to have a sonic game with absolute shit physics after the original games worked just fine is honestly just incomprehensible to me.

Unleashed is good.

But the older Sonic games had a build up that just hasn't been achieved in 3D/Later games.

The Chaos Emeralds. If you notice in a lot of the later games the Emeralds are of a lesser importance and transformation my be nonexistent or restricted to Sonic.

The genesis mainline along with several GGear spinoffs stayed true to the Emeralds.

Then you have lesser characters getting redesigns and spotlight in the Genesis/Saturn era (Metal Sonic/Knuckles Chaotix/Hyper Knuckles/Super Tails/Dr. Robotnik was not Eggman)

Sonic was a star with his sprite sheet alone. Not reliant on snazzy comebacks and 1 liners.

The Nearly all the Genesis/Saturn era Sonic games have better ending to the games made after.

Normally being a graphic detail of the final defeat of Robotnik. Then, you get some fanfare possibly a light show and Sonic being Sonic.

The endings to the old games made it look like Sonic just blazed through a overly complicated Robotnik scheme, breaking no sweat.
