Caught the clip on NPR yesterday, was pretty hilarious other than the fact I currently live in the USA and am reasonably close to a major target.

The NPR broadcast went on to note that sanctions are basically useless because NK uses shell companies to buy/sell goods in China and the only people actually hurt are the NK citizens.

As an American, yes.

Depends on how up to date their first strike target list is. I live in walking distance of the birthplace of IBM, which was definitely a prime target during the Cold War. Since then, however, IBM has stopped being the keystone of American computing, and they've pretty much vacated their campus here anyway.

They have yet to demonstrate they actually can fire a missle at LONG range with enough accuracy to NOT hit a different country by accident. All their tests have basically been mostly straight-up and into the nearby ocean (and they STILL landed in waters belonging to other nations once or twice), merely going high enough to prove that the rockets do in theory have enough delta-V to go as far as they claim.

I see no reason to suspect that they would automatically be able to hit the USA. And given their track record, there could very well be a risk of it breaking up one or two stages in, leaving it to fall on Russia or China or something (though I would hope that any catastrophic structural failure would likely destroy the detonation electronics too, it would still leave the country it lands on with a nice effective dirty bomb).

Provocations like what? Trump is still relatively untested in terms of crisis management. He thus far has not had to deal with a major incident like a terrorist threat or significant natural disaster.

I mean, I agree that the people who think he's going to start flinging nukes around at the first sign of trouble are scaremongering (the other side did much the same during the election when they were implying that Hillary was chomping at the bit to declare war on Russia - bloodthirstiness apparently makes for good mudslinging these days) but it's a bit premature to claim that Trump's already battle tested. Thus far the biggest crises he's had to face are legal and PR gaffes - that's a far cry from war or disaster.

tbh, when I heard about them having the capacity to hit Chicago I joked that it'd probably miss and nail Toronto.

More importantly, if even Russia and China come to Canada's defense (never going to happen), who exactly is WWIII going to be against? It wouldn't really be a "world war" because it'd be a bunch of guys ganging on NK.
