Viserys died. I don't remember Dany being that patient with him in the show, but I guess I'm misremembering.

Also, it's amusing how casually this book kills of major characters compared to the later seasons of the show.

Tbf and put it in perspective, anyone who dies in this book hasn't even made it through a single book.

Ned's a bit different, of course. He's really treated more as THE main character of a book more than anyone else up until his capture, even Tyrion in ACoK. (They both get 15 chapters, but Tyrion gets the whole book for that, and part of that is the switching between him and Sansa during Blackwater.)

Some of my favorite books of all time, handily, but I can't in good conscience recommend them to people anymore because I don't think there will ever be a seventh unless George's wife goes against his wishes once he's gone.

George won't allow anyone to finish the series if he dies. And given how long it's taken him to get to 6, a lot of people fear he won't get to 7 at all.

I used to have this theory that like 2 weeks after he submits his last book for publishing he'll get hit by a bus or something.

Problem is, I think he must have the same theory.

I suspect that if there hadn't been a TV show, TWOW would probably have been released by now. I also would never have read the books, most likely.

Watching S1, Viserys seemed very obviously marked for death.

Viserys is also much better in Dany's internal monologue. She thinks back fondly on some of the lessons Viserys teaches her as kids, and it's much clearer that she owes her life to him in the books. He just seems like a fuckboy (which admittedly, he is) in the show.

And George himself has said it might have to expand to 8

Better hope humanity discovers the secrets of immortality pretty soon then.

Possibly. I remember being really surprised by it in the book. It was the first major death (not counting Jory here) and I thought he had an important role to play in the future. There were a lot of characters whom I thought had big things to do in the future, but were killed off.
