Still to this day I will never understand why everyone thinks he's one of the GOATs in rap. I really like rap, but 2pac was never one I really enjoyed all that much.

Anyone diverse in the genre will tell you he isnt that great. Same with Eminem, but at least Eminem can rap

The short answer is that before 2pac, all the popular rap was basically rapping about how awesome you were at rapping.

2pac (and biggie, and several others) actually started rapping about political issues dealing with racism and crime and shit that impoverished ghettos put up with on a daily basis.

Meanwhile MC Hammer was rapping about how awesome his pants are, Salt-n-Pepper were rapping about how they were here, and Sir Mix-a-Lot was rapping about butts.
