Mostly "leftists" are angry at the lack of official response over this. When there's an Islamic attack we can expect a strong statement and recourse from leaders and government. In this case, all we get is a "woah woah, everyone should calm down".

If leftists seem smug to you over this, it's because it confirms what many believe already: the current administration has a strong bias and is unwilling to openly denounce the awful actions of right wing extremists if they're part of the conservative base.
