I like the music but playing them....theyre bullshit. They also look like they're trying to give you a seizure.

The blue spheres will always be the best even though Sonic 2 is my personal favorite

I really dislike the bonus games in Sonic 1. There's not even a point to getting all the emeralds

Sonic 1 is the only one that I can actually complete all the bonus stages in.

I admit it is kinda BS though, you pretty much have to memorize the correct paths.

I think if they remade sonic 1 bonus stages to work with Wiimotes where you twist the stage with motion controls, they'd actually be really fun.

I've always like them. They sort of remind me of a Psychedelic M.C. Escher Experience.

I don't know how you could do that. It gets bonkers

When I was a kid I used to put bottle caps I saved and a marble to "play" that I was doing those special levels.....

Anyway they are allright, sonic 2 are the fucking worst. Sonic 3 is best.

I actually have some vintage Mario bottle caps, from I think Pepsi bottles that I used to use as chip in card games.

I kinda hate how the bonus stages are trail and error.

Kinda why I prefer S3&K Blue Sphere. Much more manageable

Sonic 1 special stages are pretty unwieldy and it feels like you're constantly battling unintuitive momentum and hidden gravitational tipping points. Still, you can sorta make your way through them carefully without it devolving into total trial and error. Just don't go barrelling down a blind corridor.

Sonic 2 features the most trial and error. The last few special stages have blind turns where you don't know whether there are going to be rings or mines on the left or the right.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles special stages are perfect. There's zero trial and error, the time limit is removed in favor of an acceleration/speed mechanic, and there's the bonus objective of collecting all the rings (which adds a ton of depth and turns the stages into puzzles, where you have to think about the correct order in which to collect the blue spheres).

S3&K special stages also add an element of exploration to the main stages, with the way that the entrances are placed.

The Sonic 1 special stages are actually the easiest for me. Only a few of the later ones get difficult, and that's mainly because of all the "gems" you have to get through. The paths themselves are pretty easy, and if you dodge the "speed up" spheres, it's manageable.

And I LOVE the music and the colors.

Sonic 2's stages are more difficult, but more fun. But they're also impossible with an AI Tails. You need to be Sonic Alone or have a friend pick up a second controller.

Sonic 3's stages are fun, but the bland "environments" and monotonous maps make them really boring to look at.

i never really minded them
they're pretty easy if you just hug the walls, and extremely easy if you're accustomed to them

3's are really boring on repeats

Bro for real the tension made me clench like a motherfucker. Just like Quick Man's stage or the mine carts in Ducktales.

I don't mind the bonus stages in the first game. I think they're the easiest ones to beat. The ones in later games involve memorization and I'm not too fond of that.
