The Natives aren't traitors they weren't American citizens to start with, pretty lame effort at false equivalency if you ask me.

They were enemies of the Unites States and killed American citizens.

Addy is trying to equate Native Americans who happened to be the original settlers and who ended up being mauled to dirty separatist slavers!

Yeah, a lot of tribes fought for the land that they had survived off of for thousands of years. However, they were a very important part of development for the early settlers who were having a very rough time surviving in the new world. They also played key roles in fighting off the nations enemies, though some did fight with for the crown too. But we can't ignore how crucial they were to the survival of the early settlers only to be destroyed decades later. I know my people, the Oneida, were big playes in the fur trade.

I wonder if the opposite of this would be logically conclusive? I realize Admiral didn't quite arrive at a sound conclusion with this post, but the notion is still open for discussion.

Do we have any monuments in the U.S. that are of the men who came to America and fought the Natives? Would Native Americans have a leg to stand on if the requested those statues be removed?

There's been some controversy of late over the statue of the founder of Halifax in Halifax based on stuff he allegedly did/called for/allowed to happen.

No, pretending the past was different/didn't exist is horrific.

Yes bad shit happened in the past but we need to remember it in order to learn from it and not make the same mistakes.

This topic will fit nicely with his call for racial profiling.

Are you being serious? The United States wasn't formed when colonists arrived.

To be fair, the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Natives and US citizens still engaged in armed conflict through the 1800's and up until the early 1900's.

And with one post you just lost all credibility and any hint of knowledge on the subject.

Such low quality trolling especially from you addy. Another failed topic you'll deny ever happened in the future.

I didn't really read through this topic, but I guess I'll give my opinion on the statues here.

I don't mind removing them from public places. I understand that they make a lot of people uncomfortable and what they represent. I do think, however, that destroying them is such a pointless waste. They should be placed in museums for all people to see for years to come. Not to celebrate the people the statues represent, but to serve as constant reminders of the ugly side of history. Hiding from the past helps no one.

That's just my opinion though. I don't mean to offend anyone. I'll just outright say that I'm southern so you know where I'm coming from.

Yes, there is a lot of nuance in regards to this topic. The native tribes and US citizens followed a long and bloody path together, but there were forks in that road and there is also a history of cooperation, assistance and peace in some cases. To be clear, native people suffered greatly as a whole, and my comments are not meant to downplay their experiences.
