I mean Sonny fast, that Sonny was running on a threadmill too fast which caused a lab explosion which turned Kintobor into the evil Robotnik, etc etc.
The Fleetway Sonic comic used this as their backstory.

Konami actually made a yugioh card called "After Genocide" which depicted art of a bunch of corpses lying in a field.

Somehow that got past the localization censor's here in America

Honestly, they should've changed the background and made it Death Egg 1 instead of Metropolis 3.

One of the best tracks in the game can only be heard for about 2 to 5 seconds until you walk into the other room and fight Mecha Sonic.

There was also a plan for a zone called Wood Zone.

The one I know that most still don't is that Sonic 3 has all of the music for Sonic & Knuckles included in it as well.

I first discovered this completely by accident when I was a kid

If you let the drowning music start to play during the boss fight with Robotnik at the end of Hydrocity Zone, then jump out of the water, instead of the normal boss music resuming play, the mid-boss music from S&K will start playing instead

That said, the games should focus on the gameplay.
