I wonder in Japan if they use the Romaji characters or if they use Hiragana sounds, like maybe:

When they do letter ranking like that they generally just use English lettering for ranking even in jp versions of games

What I find weird is that S and SSS ranks a common but SS feels very rare

That's only in Japanese games and I'm pretty sure it's because that's how their academic grading system works.
