This phenomenon of naming your kids after yourself isn't just a thing in America, but it's how it's done IN America just stuns me as rather confusing. For the most part, in my family at least (as I come from a line of Italians), the first names are passed on through middle name, or it skips a generation. EG: Marcelo > Julian > Marcelo. And then there's a Stefano naming his daughter Stefania. It's technically a different name so it gets a pass.

And then there's (name) Jr. I find it absurd and not to mention everyone will just call them Junior for their entire damn life so why not just name the kid Junior? Do people like their name so much that they just give it to their kid or is it because you can't think of an original name? I get family tradition (such as will the English royal family they put a number next to their name to signify how many rulers have had that name) but I don't know why anyone would just say "Hey let's give the kid the same name as me because why not?"

Or

Is this Jr. thing just a hoax created by Hollywood to confuse foreigners.

I had my father's name at birth. So I guess I would have been called a Jr. or II but that wasn't attached onto it officially. Thank god almighty it was changed completely when I was 2. My old middle name became my first name. New middle name and mother's maiden name as my last. After she got remarried her's changed again but I'm still the same.
I mean thank god. Not a week goes by that I don't remember what my name could have been and breath a sigh of relief.

Anything, and I mean anything is better than some mexican names though. I worked in the catholic church for a while dealing with paperwork for baptisms and the like.
first(Hector-Martinez-Cardinal) middle(Espinoza-Contrerez) last(Guadalupe-Maria-Sanchez). I mean holy fuck! That is just pure bs. I would have that shit changed to something normal when I reached 18 if I were all these kids. If asked why by a judge I would just point to it written down and say"Look. Look at this garbage." It's bs speaks for itself.

Eh, we have our grandparent's first name as our middle name in my family. I have my paternal grandfather's name and my older brother has our maternal grandfather's name.
