I am in the path of totality (Salem, or) I will look directly at it without glasses for about a minute once it reaches totality

Couple seconds are fine as long as it's just that. You can look up directly at the sun for a couple seconds and not go blind.

your eyes are much more vulnerable during an eclipse because your pupils open to allow more light in

It's far worse to stare at an almost full eclipse because the eyes dilate for night vision which in turn lets more of the nasty rays in.

Why in the high holy hell is everyone making such a big about this thing? We had one happen in 2012. If you live in the totality area then I get it but everyone everywhere in CA is making a big stink like "Omfg we've never seen this before!" One happened in 2012. And two more will happen in 2023 and 2024 that are even better to see in CA.

Yeah it's incredibly incredibly stupid that there are employers who are still drug testing people for office jobs. It makes zero sense for people who don't work with any sort of dangerous equipment, machinery, etc.

Since it's dark, your pupils dilate to the darkness, but the sun is still emitting the same level of rays n shit.
