Well I've been in retail pharmacy for five years and I like it, so I figured I should go to pharmacy school.

Ours is one of the top 20 programs in the nation and they just swapped the curriculum around

im just kiddin auburn is ok I have a lot of auburn fan friends obviously if I live in alabama

but time is coming to act like I hate all other schools, because I pull for a college that I didn't go to (but spent many many weekends in Tuscaloosa at parties and games my late teens/early 20s and spent much money on bama tickets throughout my life)

I'm just gonna copy pasta how I explained the curriculum to a friend

So the way they're doing this new curriculum is there's no set subject. We have one big class called Integrative Learning that goes from 8-11 Monday through Friday and it's a combination of multiple subjects in one. Each week we focus on one specific disease state. This week it's hypertension. Next week is diabetes. Two professors teach each week. We have a lab once a week at undisclosed times. That class lasts 6 weeks, then there's an evaluation week, then we have a workshop week, then the other 6 week class starts. We have a lunch break from 11-noon, then we have organization meetings, and on Tuesday-Thursday we have what is called our Pharmacy Practice Experience. It consists of people first through third year and we meet once a week to set up and discuss patient visits and the like. We then do patient visits outside of class and we have to do a minimum of 10 of those. We have a class that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-4 called longitudinal learning. It's a subject that lasts the entire semester. This semester it's an overlook of the U.S Healthcare system. We also have mandatory seminars on Fridays

Thanks man. And it definitely is. I hate the three hour block. It's exhausting. It also sucks not knowing when lab is until like a day or two before. I need some concrete shit so I can plan out when I can work (I'm working 4 hours a week to keep my job).

What is pharmacy school? Is it just like knowing what every drug does or do you have to know about medical conditions too? Idk every time the pharmacist asks if I have any questions I just say no so idk what they really do other than fill the bottle with the pills, and that doesn't seem like something you need to go to school for.

You need to know about every illness and the mechanism of most medications. Right now I'm doing micro class and we have to know like 40 different bacteria species and the multiple ways to treat them in 2 weeks. It's ridiculous. This class, that is. Should have given us more time to learn all this shit

What do pharmacists do other than fill up bottles and answer questions though? Like why do you need to go through so much training, I assume there are more duties than what is seen by customers? I'm not trying to be a smart ass btw, I'm sure pharmacy school is more difficult than anything I've ever had to learn.

Pharmacists often consult with physicians about optimal care when it comes to managing disease states. It's possible to specialize in certain fields such as cardiology and work in a more clinical setting. The people that actually count the pills are usually the techs. Retail pharmacists do all of the technical shit like checking for drug interactions, managing MTMs, ensuring adherence, counseling patients, administering vaccines, consulting with prescribers, and so much more.

I'm actually in the application stage for Pharm school myself (prob gonna submit tomorrow). Got a 96 PCAT and pretty high GPA so I shouldn't have any problem getting an interview at the very least. I only waited so I could graduate with my Chem degree first.

Well thanks. I was surprised about the score myself.Here in Georgia, they have a basic algorithm for making the interview, and I'm well above the threshold due to my PCAT score, so hopefully I can articulate myself well. I've only had like two interviews in my entire life.


Hope everything goes well with you in Pharm school dood. Making friends and building connections seems like a pretty crucial thing early on. Maybe you can give me a few tips if I make it in next Fall.
